Sodium question

Quote  |  Reply

So I've been trying to up my calories. Before I saw this site I was under 1300 calories/day. Now Im atleast over 1300 on most days (I'm 6'3" 270 lbs).

My sodium levels seem to be crazy high tho. Any food I can buy prepared at the store with low sodium? (I don't have a kitchen to cook in). I just found Boca meatless burgers tonight. I liked the way it tasted and it was only 270mg Sodium.

Im not sure what you like or how big you like your meals to be. But I like to eat soup a lot. I buy the low sodium kind and they have plenty of different soups so I dont get bored. Also, if you like tuna, there is one in a can that is low sodium and in water. Good for sandwiches. If I think of more I will post again!

I'm sure this isn't going to be the only time you'll hear this, but 1300 seems awfully low considering your size. I won't say anymore about it, though, because I'm sure some other person will.

To answer your question, most foods that are bought prepared have the tendency of having a higher sodium content for preservation purposes. If you really want to cut back on the sodium, the better route would be to buy the ingredients and prepare the meal yourself. Personally, I feel better when I make a meal myself because it gives me something to do and allows me to know EXACTLY what I am putting in my body. I understand that many people don't have the time to prepare their meals step-by-step, though. I'm lucky to have that luxury.

As I said, I dont have a kitchen. Best I can do for prep is sorta how I make my lunch wraps

Assembling the Wrap, meat, vegetable, etc

Oh, wow. Apparently I can't read or I have a very short term memory. Sorry, then. I'm no help! Haha.

She is right you shoul consume at least 1700 to 2000 calories all you have to do cut sodium and do some cardio.

Beans, peas, rice, lentils, or pasta (dried and fresh, cooked without salt) Milk (evaporated)

Cereals (hot, regular cooking) Milk (nonfat dry)

Club soda Milk (skim, low-fat, and regular)

Coffee (regular and decaffeinated) Seltzer water (flavored)

Fruits (fresh, frozen, and canned) Soda pop (regular and diet)

Fruit drinks Soy milk

Herbs and spices (non-salt) Tea (iced)

Lemonade Vegatables (fresh and plain frozen)

Meats, fish, and poultry (fresh) Yogurt (plain and fruit flavored)

Milk (chocolate skim)

Do you have a microwave?  Lots of frozen veggies have no salt added at all.  You could buy soups or other prepared foods and combine them with the veggies so that the total sodium isn't so bad.  Also, as others have said, there are lots of low sodium foods.  I think the healthy choice line of stuff has less sodium than others, though maybe not a lot less.

Sodium really is a tough one
