My sodium intake recently has averaged about 3300mg a day, which I understand is about 1000mg more than the recommended maximum. I generally drink at least 64 oz of water, sometimes as much as 80 oz, during the day, and also at least 16 oz of skim milk.
Does anyone know any math that can help me figure out if I'm drinking enough water on a daily basis to mitigate my sodium intake? Or how much extra I should add when I have a high-sodium day?
New info here, or links to old threads or other sites are all welcome . . .

the basic recommendation is to drink 64 oz of water a day. that's the BASIC recommendation. if you're trying to lose weight, i've heard 100 oz or about 3 liters. a lot of people drink more. i don't think there's any "exact" math for calculating water vs sodium. i don't think drinking water will mitigate the sodium although it will definitely help. just for general health, you should really look into lowering your sodium intake by A LOT. i doubt that increasing how much water you drink will really "cancel out" the sodium. but i'm not totally sure and it might be worth more investigation if you don't think you can decrease your sodium.
the rule i follow is half my weight in ounces...
so if i weigh 200lbs, i drink 100oz

I have a very hard time with sodium, what helps me is that you keep your sodium and water consumption level consistent.
If you eat 2500mg of sodium and drink 2litres (64oz) of water daily. Keep doing that, if you try to cut one day and overdo it the other you will see your weight fluctuate continuously.
It doesn't matter in the long run, but if it helps you mentally then I suggest it.

Salt is also a problem for me. If I keep it around 2500, I'm pleased. It doesn't throw my weight off TOO much, so long as I drink at least 64-120 oz. of water a day.
