Why would someone change their CC name?

After being accused of being a "secret" someone else, I've decided to try and think of all the reasons I can for why someone would dare to post under more than one name. 

1.  The computer was starting to sound like a poorly maintained jet engine, resulting in a replacement.  Can't post under the orginal name, because the old computer always did that for me- What were those passwords again?

2.  Cancelled original CC account due to goal weight being met and maintained for a 3 month period.  YEAH!  Created new account after eating one too many Twinkies resulting in tight jeans and a need for a new CC account.

3.  Have a love for a healthy debate, and like to play devil's advocate on occasion but don't want to confuse others who might have formed opinions on based on previous posts. 

Well, I'm sure there are lots more interesting reasons; but that was all I could come up with at this late hour.  I'll maybe dream up a few more later. 

I changed my screen name because when I googled my name this profile of this crazy women came up that lived within 100 miles of me.  Didn't want anyone to think that she was me.

I kind of wish I could change my screen name...I was sick and feeling lazy (and not creative) on the day I discovered CC.  Oh well, the one I have will suffice.

Anyone remember... maybe 2007? There was the girl who kept signing up for a new account. She was a swimmer, always posted the same stats, and would ask similar questions each time, all pointing to an eating disorder.

Somebody would inevitably call her on it. One time, she responded something like "No, I'm not xxxx, but she sounds like a really cool girl - I'd like to meet her." It was fun to try to figure out if it was her again.

Other than that... people (like andie) just feel like change or realize that their email address isn't a good screen name so they request it to be changed.

And other people create new accounts for the extra anonymity. Several people have created new accounts because they need to discuss something personal, and they have friends who use CC (affairs, questions about sexuality, etc). Others do it so that they can harrass people, but those people are trolls and usually reveal themselves quickly by focusing their attentions on whichever person got their ire up.

yeah, that was me.  when someone who's just joined and has only made a handful of posts hurls accusations at me as if we've been butting heads for months, i get suspicious.

 Ah, memories.  She actually had created over 28 identities.

i'll admit, this is my second account.  my first lasted less than a week; i'd chosen a name that was far too close to my real name, and it was uncomfortable.

To answer your thread title- I changed my member name because this one suits me better than the old one. But I didn't try to do it secretively.

It sounds like you're not asking about that, but more about one person having 2 separate accounts?

But strangely, she often had the same avatar for the screen names - made it easier to recognize her. Not that her posts weren't similar enough.

You need one account for each of your personalities, don't you.  There's PMS Polly, Depressed Debbie, Happy Hannah, Angry Annie  -  the list goes on and on.

Or maybe you just had a stupid user name, like Puh8suwrux, and got tired of hearing people spit (puh) at you.  By the way, I prefer Rux.

Look!  I changed my screen name (a mod told me what to do)!  I used to be kaetlynm.

 Absolutely nothing - I used a password generator.  I started a CC account because of a stupid points site - saw how cool it was and kept the CC account, lost the points site.  But by then I had a lot of stuff in my account, so I didn't want to just create a new name.

I am actually 90% of the posters in the lounge. muahahahaaaaaaa

Chat is actually just CDC talking to herself at rapid speed.
