Could someone explain pickles to me?

Quote  |  Reply
I was in the grocery store yesterday and saw little packages of pickles ( Like the kind fruit cups come in ) And the nutrition label said '0 calories'.. But seriously, I knwo they 'virtually' have no calories and can round between 5, but even 5 seems low.. dosen't it? There was a good 8-10 mini gherkins in there...

Ahhh, I love pickles!!! We keep a big jar of BIG dill spears in the fridge (5 calories each), plus a jar of the thinly sliced sandwich stackers in there, too ... great for sammies.

Pickles are cucumbers and salt and vinegar, plus a few spices. Just not a lot of calories in there. (Look up the calories in cucmbers!) If you need to watch your sodium/salt intake, they can be a problem unless you get low sodium ones ... otherwise, I count them as a "free" food and have a pickle or two whenever I find myself rummaging in the fridge, bored.

And they can be fun, cut up and added to salsa, egg salad, green salads, etc.

YUM!!!! I think that I shall never see, I pickle I didn't munch happily.......

I love those pickle paks ('cept I screwed up and go sweet pickles last time, ick).  Those things are so tiny -- you wish to compare, look at how many calories the same weight of cucumber would cost you (i'm betting it's close to 0)
That could be a good idea.. It's just weird how it says 0.. idk..
Dont quote me on this and I am sure if I werent so lazy I could google it to find out for sure but I swear I read somewhere once that if something has less than 5 calories they can put Zero on the label.  Not everyone does as I have seen things with 1, 2, 3...but rarely...does seem to be 0 or 5...not much in between.
Yes, they can label it zero if it's within 5 calories. But the thing is, even if it was only 5 calories, that still seems really low..

Pickles are cucumbers which are already very low calorie treated with vinegar which again has next to no calories and dill which have very few calories and salt which while it has sodium has next to no calories.

One of my favorite snacks is baby dill pickles...a whole bowl of them is about 30 calories.  A bowl of celery is about 15 calories, a bowl of carrots is maybe 60 calories to give you perspective.
