someone has to help me, how can I eat cake and lose weight?
I haven't had cake in 5 months. what happened yesterday was weird. I had strong cravings for cakes. I tried everything to stop these cravings. I ate broccoli, I drank water, sipped tea, I even tried one serving cake in a mug recipe ( I ended up eating two servings worth of 600 cals) and it was not good. I also had psyllium husk LOL
but the cravings didn't go away. so I bought the lightest cake I found and ate half of it ( about 600-700 calorie) and gave away the other half before I finish the entire thing.
I just wish I did that from the beginning, instead of wasting 1000 calories on ( one serving cake in a mug ) and other foods.
how can I enjoy cake and lose weight? I really need advice because this ruins my diet. I feel I cheated and it is a very bad feeling.
Also, I need to know what kind of cake can I enjoy and still lose weight? there is no good recipe for one serving cake by the way.
diet coke cake!! buy cake mix and put in a can of diet coke...... w/o the added ingredients you are only consuming the cals stated on the box! and it tastes like the real thing too. Also Angel Food Cake is yummy too... you can put fruit on top and fat free whipped topping
When I was following a low carb diet, there were all kinds of recipes for desert type foods where you substitute artificial sweetener for sugar and carbquik or something similar for flower. The result was that the foods were very close to the real thing and because the sugar content is reduced, the calorie content was reduced as well.
I am not advocating that you regularly bake desert foods, but occasionally it wouldn't hurt, especially when a craving hits. The key is baking it yourself and using substitutes for things that are normally very high in sugar and/or calories. If you are not sure what to use or what recipes there are, you can try googling low carb recipes or low sugar recipes or diabetic recipes, etc. They should amount to the same thing.
Good luck :)
How about angel food cake? ~140 calories a slice. I like mine with fresh strawberries.

Hope this helps, I found it on the web.
FROSTED DEVIL'S ANGEL CAKE
3/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. liquid sugar substitute
1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
10 egg whites (1 1/4 c.)
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Fudge Frosting
Sift flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and cocoa onto waxed paper. Beat egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar in large bowl until very foamy and peaks are beginning to form. Gradually beat in remaining 1/2 cup sugar. Continue beating until stiff peaks form. Beat in vanilla and liquid sweetener. Gently fold the flour mixture into the egg whites a few tablespoons at a time. Turn into an ungreased 9 inch spring-form pan. Carefully cut through batter with spatula to avoid air pockets. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 40 minutes or until surface of cake is dry and springs back when lightly pressed. Invert cake in pan on wire rack until cold. Carefully loosen cake from side of pan; loosen from bottom of pan. Serve as is or split into three layers and reassemble with Fudge Frosting.
FUDGE FROSTING:
2 (2 1/4 oz.) pkgs. low-calorie whipped topping mix
1 pkg. instant chocolate pudding
Sugar substitute to equal 1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. cold water
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
1 tsp. instant coffee
Combine all ingredients in small bowl of electric mixer. Beat at high speed for 2 minutes. Yield: 16 servings at 133 calories each if frosted; 77 calories without frosting.
I heard about the diet coke cake but I try to stay away from diet coke. Also, I have a problem. I have a stomach inflammation and my doctor advised that I should stay away from artificial sweetners:(
just wondering if there is any cake with honey that is low calorie? and without BUTTER. butter irritates my stomach.
chaotickitty
how do you make this cake? or do you mean I just buy angel food cake? i think this is the one I bought yesterday. I bought very light orange cake that has 120 cals per slice.
Making your own cake and you knowing what goes in the cake is the best cake you will ever have and enjoy eating....
I know with brownie mixes, instead of adding the ingredients to the mix you can add just a can of black beans. It tastes almost just like regular brownies.
I've heard that this works with cake as well. With a white cake use a can of white beans and use black beans with chocolate or a dark colored cake.
I don't really care about brownies. can you imagine? :) I just love cakes. I heard about adding a pumpkin can to a cake mix. maybe I can try that with angle cake mix.
nieto914: thanks so much for the recipe. the only problem is when the cravings hit, I normally go and buy a cake because I don't keep cakes in the house. I don't even have the ingredients to bake cakes. you know? when the cravings hit, I can't wait to bake a cake :) so I was wondering if there is a light cake I can just buy when the cravings hit?
That is a hard sell, I will look around but I would think most have lots of sugars and words I can not pronounce.
What about a family bakery near by that makes cakes. I have one not far and they may have a low calorie sub.

can't you buy one piece of cake instead of the whole thing?

If there's an Asian grocery store near you, look at Castella, a Japanese honey cake. The calorie content varies, obviously. I sometimes buy individually packaged ones for 140 cals/serving. They're nice & light, with a density between angel food cake & chocolate cake. I suppose they're like a sponge cake. Not too sweet though... very tasty! I've even seen green tea honey cakes which were delicious. There are lots of recipes online too!

Check in the bakery section at the grocery store. I know that the ones by me sell individual cake slices you can by for about $1.50 in the cases. They're still closer to two serving than one, but at least it's not a whole cake!
I just buy the angel food cake. You could make your own and they sell mixes but as I understand it this particular cake can be a bit trickier than standard cakes.
I take a package of angle food cake and add one can of unsweetened crushed pineapple (in place of the egg, oil and water it calls for) ... everyone should try this one it is moist and soo yummy.
i can't find any one serving cake around me. As a matter of fact, I am going now to buy a whole cake to eat because I just had a very bad day at work.

you're kidding, right? there's not a single store or restaurant in your community that can come up with a single serving of cake?
well. i might just eat a pound of chocolate today, because there are no vegetables around me.
Have you tried the Betty Crocker single servings - they aren't quite the real thing, but they are warm and gooey and chocolatey - often help when I'm wishing I could bake a cake or brownies. Find someone to share with.

Eating the whole cake will turn a bad day at work into miserable, bloated evening!
This sounds like a mental/emotional thing to me. Cake must be like your cigarette, or something. What you need to do, is just...not eat cake. Ignore the cravings. Overcome the cravings. You're stronger than the cravings.
