how do you let someone know you like them?

There's this guy at work I'm interested in. I'm not sure quite how much yet because I haven't had many opportunities to interact with him, but I know I'd like to get to know him better and then maybe pursue something. Long story short, I've never really been in this situation before so I don't know how to go about it. I've always been shy about things like this, I wouldn't even tell my friends who I was crushing on back in school lol. So how do you people go about it?

I like the 1-2 second look with a soft smile or a slightly raised eyebrow.  If you bake you could bring him something homemade.

system watch: as a girl, if guy is just friends because we don't want to date him, then he's probably not right for us when it comes to chemistry and we've recognized that and in many instances told him either bluntly or through excessive comments on being friends.  Those who settle for friends while harboring hopes are generally not true friends and get pissy anytime we don't do what they want or expect (not exactly a friendship).  Usually my true guy friends are friends because we have similar hobbies, I wouldn't impose an unwanted romance on them anymore than they would on me although if both are single and there's interest then something more might come of it.  Those that I've turned down for dating rarely bother trying to be my friend which is a lot easier.  If I've expressed interest in a guy and he turns me down, for whatever reason, I just have the same romantic interest, so even if we continue to be friends the romantic interest on my part is usually gone.

Touching - if he's wearing a new shirt say "nice shirt" and then stroke his elbow and comment on the fabric ("it's so soft!") and ask him where he got it.

You could randomly go to his department, sit on his desk, say "I'm bored at my office, tell me a joke!"

haha this place is FAR from an office type job (well there is an office department but neither of us is in it), it's a dinner and show kind of place...him being in the show, me serving the dinner. I guess I'm just going to try and get done my work faster, maybe I'll run into him more then..
