I was at a booth at the local Celtic Festival that was selling clothing made from recycled saris.  The items looked like double layer wrap skirts and the lady would demo various different ways to wrap them to create dresses and tops.

She demo'd a variation on me that I felt emphasized my plump middle too much.  I made  a comment that I needed to loose about 25 pounds to feel comfortable and she said that she couldn't see where I could loose 25 pounds from and that thin people always said they needed to loose weight.

I did thank her for the compliment.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY Dance!!!!

It feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

It's sad that you measure your self-worth on what other people think of you.

Losing weight will not make a clod of a difference to one's self-esteem.

It's sad that "wormyeyelid" can't just be happy for you!! Don't worry about people like that trying to bring you down. It does feel great to know that you have reached your goal and have people compliment you on it. Good for you girl!!!!

What wormyeyelid doesn't seem to realize that being heavy for a  long time alters one's perception of themself. You can lose weight but still the see old fat you when you look in the mirror. When strangers makes comments like that- they see you as thin, you begin to see yourself in a new way and it helps you change your old perception of you. It doesn't mean that person has no self esteem but sometimes you're working so hard to meet a goal that you do not always reflect on what you have achieved-until someone like that reminds you.

Enjoy to the hilt and get used to the comments, but never stop appreciating them!!

woohoo!! Don't you just love that?!!! Keep it up. A lot of times others see changes in us before we see the changes.

That is sooo true! when I last lost some weight (about 20lbs), for a while but I'm back on track now, it wasn't until my friends were asking me if I had lost weight that I realized that my body was changing.

I don't know but for some reason, I didn't like getting compliments at that time becasue I just wanted to focus but that just helped me realize that while my body was changing at that time, I had to enjoy my body in that process!!

And rose_gil, your story reminds me of a book that I last read that has gotten me back on track called, Passing for Thin: Losing Half of My Weight and Finding Myself Again by Frances Kuffel. She never really got the fact of being thin into her mind until so many compliments and gaining back some and losing again occured and she really accepted her body for how it was.

But overall Congrats on the compliments!!=]

Dosnt it feel great

... and putting others down will not make a clod of a difference to your own self-esteem either. It's sad that you have to put other's down in an attempt to feel better about yourself.

Rosegil, I hope you take whatever wormyeyelid says as a grain of salt. You're doing great, and there will always be others who put you down, but we'll all stick up for you. Don't listen to those people, just know that whatever they say is a reflection of their own insecurities and jealousies, and that it has nothing to do with who you are as a human being.
