Cottage cheese make you fat. Or at least makes you gain weight. which i should have enough knowledge about this stuff to know that it doesnt, its the calories that would if you over ate on it. But i just wanted a little reasurance lol.
Just Double checkin =]
As long as you are eating with an overall calorie deficeit, I don't think you can logically gain weight (unless you're coming out of starvation mode.) It's the overall calories, not the individual foods that count.
So, I'm calling BS on their cottage cheese comment.
I mean, I ate it everyday when I first started losing weight and I still lost, like, 20 lbs.
So, don't worry, enjoy your cottage cheese.
thanks =]
So in the future, if anyone tells you such and such food will make you fat, it's BS. Overeating makes you fat. Pure and simple.
Your misinformed friend might have been drawing this conclusion because cottage cheese is a little high in sodium. The sodium can make you retain a little water the next day if you eat too much, but it's not fat. If you drink enough water, it shouldn't be an issue.
I was always told that cottage cheese was very good for weight loss. High in protein, low in fat...although it is a bit high in sodium, but the 1% or 2% is lower in cals and you can do so many different things with it. I personally love cottage cheese, and I am sure it is not hindering my weight loss.
When I was seriously restricting during my ED, I ate cottage cheese for breakfast every morning. Certainly didn't make me fat.
Like every one else says, everythign in moderation. You would have to eat 25 cups of Skim Cottage Cheese (!) or 12.5 cups of Full-Fat Cottage Cheese in addition to your maitenance level in order to gain one pound. So chances are, you would exlode before you had the chance to gain any weight :P
There is no food that will "make you fat". There are no bad foods--only bad diets. Either your diet is balanced in nutrition and moderate in quantity (ie, calories), or it's not ... on a sliding scale, of course. The closer you are to the balanced and moderate side, the healthier you'll be, including your body weight. The more out of balance and not moderate you are (whether it's over eating or under eating) the less healthy and over/under weight you'll be.
Cottage cheese is a good way to get your serving of dairy and protein so if you're within your calorie allowance for the day it shouldn't make you gain anything. It is a little high in sodium so you'd want to make sure you don't go over your sodium allowance for the day.
