Somethings Fishy About This Wii Fit..

Quote  |  Reply

So the Wii Fit has the only available scale we have..My mom and I both started weighing outselves at the exact same time. So yesterday it said I lost 4.4 pounds. (Which in one day..is not very healthy. And my calorie coach gave me a thumbs down. :[) And so my mom stepped on the scale, and it said she lost 4.4 pounds too. We didn't really think anything of it until today..I stepped on and it said I had lost 2.2 pounds, and of course, my mom steps on it and says she lost 2.2 also!

Somethings fishy about this wii fit..

Hmmm ... while I haven't had that EXACT problem, I agree - it is fishy!!

The Wii Fit was my only scale for a while as well. When I first started, it said I weighed 162 lbs, then after two weeks, it told me that I had lost 4 lbs. So that puts me at 158, right? Then it kept telling me different things; I'd get on one minute, and it would tell me I weighed one thing, and then I'd get on LITERALLY one minute later and it said that I had gained weight. I got fed up with it so I decided to get a real scale. The first time I weighed, it said I weighed 165 ... a real bummer to say the least! My advice? Get a real scale ASAP, so that you don't get discouraged when it tells you the wrong weight.

If you are using it on carpet, make sure you are using the little "feet" thingies.

Make sure it is level and try to put it in roughly the same place each time you use it.

Make sure the batteries are good.

I bought one of those plug-in rechargeable battery things that go with it, and it doesn't seem to work for me.  Even fully charged I get wildly different results from using regular batteries.

Other than that, my Wii Fit has consistenly given me results that correlate pretty well with my bathroom scales.

I haven't had that problem with mine, it's always the exact same as my bathroom scale, but like Karozel said make sure you put it in the same place everytime because that can change the result also try and wear the same clothes everytime or very similar weighted clothes.

I love my wii fit! I do the 30minute free jog and super 10minute hula hoop everyday. Have lost 8 pounds! (I also run outside)

If you guys like the Wii Fit, you should also try EA Sports Active. It is super awesome and keeps me motivated!! It's fun to use both of these games in conjunction with each other.

My Wii Fit balance board has given me pretty consistant results. Like it was previously said, if you are using it on the carpet, make sure you use the extra feet additions. They will definitely make a difference.

I have been using both Wii Fit & Wii Active for a month now and have lost 11 lbs so far. I will do a 10 minute free-run on Fit for a warm-up and then switch over to Active and do my daily 30 day Challenge workout. (If it is a rest day on my Challenge, I will do an extra 10 minutes of free run.) I then switch back to Fit and do the 10 minute advanced boxing, go through all of the Yoga poses, do a few of the strength training exercises, go back to Aerobics and do a 30 minute free-run and then cool down by doing a 20 or 30 minute free-step. I end up putting in about 2 hours each day. One thing I really love is on the free-step & free-run, I can switch over and watch TV and still get a great workout!

I actually got bored with the Wii Fit because of the "hurry up and wait" thing.  Too much time between doing things.

I tried the Jillian Michaels Wii game, and if anyone is tempted to get ---- well don't you'll be disappointed.

I am currently in a love/hate relationship with "My Fitness Coach".  I use it as a warm-up on my lifting days, and and try to do a longer sessions on some of my non-lifting days.  I like the continuous movement -- not much rest time and most of the exercises are good. I just wish we could select the intensity of individual exercises (I know you can select if you pause, but I'd like to select them semi-permanently).  Also, it keeps telling me it is going to make my workouts harder --- but it really hasn't challeneged me much except tthat it thought I should be able to do a bunch of psuh-ups.

I'd be interested to hear more about the EA Active though???  I've read a little about it, but I'm afraid to spend more on something I won't use.

Karozel, what do you wanna know?

It doesn't weigh you, but you can plug in your weight yourself. It has three intensity levels and it will ask you at the beginning of your 30-day challenge workouts if you want to use the same level you used last time. You can program your own workouts before or after you're done with the 30-day challenge and make them as intense as you want to. There are soooo many different workouts, I can't foresee ever being bored with the game! The only thing that ever bugged me about it was when I first started, having to watch all the videos where they explain to you how to do the exercises, but once you know how to do them, you don't have to watch them anymore. I absolutely love it and noticed a huge difference after just a few days! It does a really good job of working out your whole body and giving different parts a rest while it concentrates on other areas. I haven't once regretted buying it!!

I really like the Wii Active because it has complete workouts already programmed in it. It is much more like having a personal trainer than the Wii Fit. You can pick between workouts that vary between upper body, lower body, cardio, low/medium/high intensity, 20/30/40 minutes.

You can also do a 30 day Challenge that gives you a pretty complete workout with a variety of different exercises. The schedule is workout 2 days, rest 1 day so that you actually have 20 workout days in the 30 day Challenge.

You can also go in an create your own personal workout programs. You can combine any of the exercises and choose the level of intensity and then save it.

If your gripe about Wii Fit is that you have to wait in between switching exercises, Wii Active would eliminate that completely.

Well "My Fitness Coach" has the pre-programmed workouts too, and every time it's different.

I can also pick a type of workout (and a virtual gyn and type of music) from cardio, upper body, lower body, flexibility, etc.  And I can choose 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes to workout.

It does make me do a "fitness evaluation" rugularly (too regularly I think) and has recommendations to help me reach my goals.

The most annoying thing about it is that it keeps asking me if a segment was challenging, and I tell it "no" and it says "Hmm, next time I'll make that part harder", but so far some of the stuff has not challenged me.  If it *is* getting harder it is really hard to tell.

For instance it takes into account what equipment you have (swiss ball or dummbells) but during most of my workouts it never has me use the dumbbells even though I keep telling it that the "rows" without dumbbells are way too easy.

But I like that fact that unlike a video, I can change it up and have a lot more freedom.  And I can do it at home!!!

When you use it you have to be balanced in the middle for an accurate result.  Have you ever noticed that when you step on a normal scale and shift your weight around the result changes by a couple pounds? Also, when you choose your clothing type it subtracts the poundage (-2 for light and -4 for heavy...I think) from the amount that registers...and most likely your workout shorts and a tank top don't weigh 2 pounds.  Good luck! I love mine.

We have been using it for around 4 months with no problems and with our weight being verified by the doctor when we go in for check ups so I haven't had a problem but I must say that you have to use it on a hard floor with no rugs, mats or carpets as the little feet just aren't high enough to rise above anything on the floor, but ours has worked perfectly so wondering if its your setup or whether your batteries are going flat?
