If you were eating 1500 cals (1800 cals for male) as the lowest minimum for a teen who is sedentary, you would find that you are far less likely to end up eating 500 calories of junk food...
If you are under 21, CC's tools are inaccurate and you should use this calculator instead: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html as you are still growing. Yes, even in the later years - there's more going on inside of you that you simply can't see.
Eating too low a calorie intake, or having a deficit from your BMR greater than 1000 results in something called "survival mode", where your body holds every last thing it can get in expectance of a famine. Water, food, calories. Explained:
- Dieting & Metabolism - This article explains starvation mode and why undereating is counter productive.
- The Body Neglected - This is what happens when you undereat for an extended period of time.
And I must remind you that Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management. And promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.
To avoid binging on junk, you NEED to up your calorie intake. Seriously, just do it. It's hard to force yourself to do it, psychologically, but it's unhealthy for your body and mind if you continue to eat only 1000 calories. You will not be able to sustain it and will binge regularly. And even if you don't mess up, you will place a huge strain on your body and you will be depressed because you are hungry and can eat barely anything.
eating 1,000 calories is not enough. This is why you binged. I suggest you give us your stats so we can figure out what a good intake for you can be. But since you are posting this on the young calorie count forum, I bet you're just a teengar, and still growing. In that case you need more than 1,500...actually teens should never go below 1,800 calories.
So up your intake seriously. It wont make you gain..to your surprise you might evne start losing more than you are now (you might gain a little at first but it will start going down again)
take care of yourself.
im 5' tall, currently 116.5 but i want to at least get to about 110 or 105, because im short i know i can lose that weight without being underweight, and today i tried eating more calories so we will see how that goes.. i ate around 1,500 healthy calories, not junk food
1500 cal isnt even a binge. I eat 1800 when in SEDENTARY

you burn around 1600 by just laying around all day. What type of activity do you perform daily? do you exercise? do you find youreslf walking everywhere?
it is likely that you are....so depending on what your calories should be.
by being lightly active, just lightly...you burn 1,900 calories.
If you exercise more, you burn around 2,200...and if you were to exercise a quite a lot you burn 2,700.
if you do it the right way, meaning 1-2 lbs a week, you will see long term results that you will be very proud of...if you do it by eating 1,000 calories like u are now....you will regret it greatly, and you will probably have to gain all the weight back...so why waste your time and put your health at risk? plus you can easily pull yourself into an eating disorder before you even notice.
its great that you upped your calories to 1,500...now make sure you know what your activity level is, so that you can find out ho wmuch you can eat and not do yourself harm.
if you exercise...the recommendation is to burn 250 exercising and eat 250 less than your maintainance cals...so you have a 500 deficit.
take care and good luck
let us know how u keep up.
im actually super active, im on my high schools dance team, and i dance for a studio.. we work out super hard at dance..(( were state champs just thought i should add that haha)) so im sure i should be eating more calories.. but everytime i do my weight always goes up, and i get freaked out so i just eat less calories the next day just to get my weight back down to where i want it.. but im stuck at 116.5 and i cant seem to go lower then that so it can get super frusterating.. and i really dont know what to do
What you do is accept that 116lbs is not an unhealthy weight for you. You're probably quite muscular if you do so much dancing and muscular people weigh more than those who aren't. Starving yourself isn't helping you lose weight, you're bingeing to survive, it's damaging your health and your fitness so why carry on doing it? And who's to say that 5' is going to be your adult height? Are your parents that tall?.... Starving may be preventing you from growing.
Eat the right amount for the amount of activity you do and you'll benefit both in terms of a better mood, more energy and better health.
yes this is my adult height, my dad is about 5'4 and my mom is 5'2.. everyone in my family is short, and i havent grown an inch since seventh grade, so im pretty sure its not likely that i grow anymore
The reason you are stalling at your already healthy weight is probably due to what has already been said to you. You're not eating enough for your activity level. You should be eating, according to the calculator for under 21s Coach linked (I am guessing your age, either 17 or 18, per you stating you're a senior):
2690 calories very active
And I would put you at no lower an activity level per the exercise you describe. That means you'd be wanting to eat more like 2200 calories just to lose weight. But your long term undereating will have likely shunted your metabolism and put you in starvation mode, which, as it does not seem to be sticking with you I will detail again:
Eating too low a calorie intake, or having a deficit from your BMR greater than 1000 results in something called "survival mode", where your body holds every last thing it can get in expectance of a famine. Water, food, calories. Explained:
- Dieting & Metabolism - This article explains starvation mode and why undereating is counter productive.
- The Body Neglected - This is what happens when you undereat for an extended period of time.
The dangers associated with undereating are osteoporosis, loss of fertility if you lose your period, hair loss, electrolyte problems, a weakening of the immune system, low blood pressure, blood disorders such as anemia, heart problems, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, and even - in worse-case scenarios - death.
The reason you ate "just junk" is because you are depriving your body of what it needs. Start eating at the level you ought to - 2600, maintainance, because your metabolism will need to recover before you consider weight loss again - and you should find yourself a lot more satisfied.
You do not need to starve to lose weight. And yes, 1500 at your activity level would be starving for you. Let's not even start on 1000.

Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
