sometimes i just "get it"

Quote  |  Reply
bit of a random posting i guess but just wanted to share this, on the hope it may be of help to someone somewhere. there have been times in my life when opprtunities presented themselves to allow me to get my life in order, and for one reason or another, however positive the message, i never "got it" or more honestly didnt want it. in particular i am thinking of my first AA meeting 24 years ago. how i regret not grasping the programme for all it was worth but i was young, cocky and thought i knew the answers. 23 years later and after several marriages and tangles with the law (and 6 yrs dry) i got to a place in life where i was good as dead. that were 9 and a half months ago, when i crawled into my local AA and despite my state i suddenly "got it". its only been a while but my whole thinking has changed towards my recovery. i see similarities in my constant struggle with weight. many times i have dieted and many times failed. usually because of my all or nothing mentality. but some power greater than i has led me to try again, one day at a time and do you know? i am gonna not only get thru the addiction but al;so gonna come out the other side of Christmas a Cool Dude HaHa. i am convinced it will all come together....cos "i got it".........forgive the ramblings of an old man...oh and i did between drinks manage toget a career....guess what i did? 10 years as a relapse prevention trainer, and a qualified Integrative Counsellor....irony of irony....god bless . uk Geoff

Your post is inspiring. I hope that now that you 'get it' you hold on to it. Never give up, never stop trying. Peace.
Wow.  That was a very brave post.

Keep up the good work, you are on the right track.

Good for you, that is quite an accomplishment! I understand all too well the 'all or nothing' mentality. I have just come to understand that I am a bit OCD, not bad, but enough to be a pain in the rear. You are an inspiration. God bless!
Good for you.  Stick with it.  With the support of AA and the people here at C-C you have a good safety net in place to keep you from falling; just hang on and help some others along as you do.

Brave thing to be so transparent and post this.
