A somewhat odd question about child molesters...

If a man molests young boys, does this mean that he is not attracted to women at all?

Just wondering... in fact, I've been wondering this for a while.

I can't honestly say I have no understanding of why a man would molest a child to begin with. But.. I'm not sure that could be said to be universally true.

No.  Pedophilia can be exclusive (only attracted to children) or non-exclusive (attracted to children and adults).  A pedophile's sexual interest in children could be limited to boys while still having sexual interest in adult women.  It is not uncommon for pedophiles to be married.

From what i understand, it's not something they can help. Sort of like being straight or gay, it's just what you are attracted to. And i'm not condoning it, but it has been going on for centuries 

I know someone who was molested my his stepfather (if I could get my hands on him for 5 minutes) and he is married to a woman, so it looks like they  can still be attracted to women.

Why would you want to know? I'd just want to know where the nearest police station is for his own safety because if he were in my vicinity for too long I'd probably kill him.

I was just wondering, because the topic came up, and I thought that since we can discuss "whatever is on our mind", I might as well post this...

No one wants to even think about what child molestors are attracted to thats just it children. quite frankly im disturbed anyone would want to know anything about these sickos but to lock them away in prison as soon as possible. I dont want to know the ins and outs of what they like or dislike sexually........that is 4 sure and this just opens up a can of worms for sickos to come in and express freely what it is that they are attracted too if they were to read this thread that is just how i feel about it i think its sick to even ask such a question!

If anyone is interested, this website allows you to search national sex offender registries. 

Maybe if more people were informed about it, pedophiles could get the help they need instead of lynch mobs

I wont even argue with you minbin you obviously are out to save the world and think all ppl have good in them if they get the help they need most of these ppl are beyond help and will never stop their desires for sick things.....they are indeed sick but you cant medicate child molestors to make them all "better"

I dont know, but I just find discussion of what molesters are attracted to disturbing..as a mother and as someone who has a family member that was molested.

Im sorry if that seems like a lynch mob answer. And while Im all for helping someone with problems...Im sorry, but I dont feel that way about someone who strips the innocence of a child, betrays the trust and unconditional love of a child and molests them. I think its sick, depraved and not something *IMHO* that can be treated.

Maybe Im just biased...

angie, I won't ask you what your experience is in this area that gives you such strong opinions.  But I work in the criminal justice system and see a lot of sex crimes.  Very few people who actually commit child molestation are pedophiles ... far more often it is a person with poor impulse control who makes a bad decision.  I'm not suggesting it's excusable, but it is certainly treatable.
