A somewhat odd question about child molesters...
If a man molests young boys, does this mean that he is not attracted to women at all?
Just wondering... in fact, I've been wondering this for a while.

Mosco, I dont know if its so much that ppl are offended as just kind of weirded out or disturbed by the question...
If its so treatable why are there so many repeat offenders in it they end up out then back in jail time and time again because they cannot control themselves. I dont have to know the background in this its sick lysistra and its sick you guys want to even sit around talking about it very disturbing........and im done with this thread because its just pissing me off that ppl want to debate child molestors and poor them they need help bs i dont wanna hear it thank you very much.
I don't see any reason this thread should be removed. You asked a question...that's fine by me. As for an answer, I'm not really sure, I assume the answer could vary from person to person.
I don't know... I'm of the opinion that there are certain lines that should never be crossed and if your poor impulse control leads you to molest a child... well, I honestly think that the death sentence should be brought back for those sick people. Sure it's not "their fault" that they are genetically predisposed to be sexually attracted to children, but them's the breaks. I definitely value a child's right to not be subjected to emotional and physical torture over an adult's right to have a second chance.
Its just such a taboo subject that people dont even like to THINK about it. But it happens. While it is a big deal, it shouldn't be a big deal to talk about it like adults. And lysistrata (post #2) is absolutely right...spoken logically like a true attorney, good answer.
minbin, the sad reality is that most of these people don't want help, they want to make child molesting socially acceptable. I wish I had as much faith in people as you did. And I wouldn't care if they stayed away from children and tried to get help. But they don't believe it's wrong. And I do. And they act on it. Which is where the lynch mob comes in.
And lysistrata, I have a lot of respect for what you do but as a result of poor impulse control and bad decisions children are having their entire lives destroyed. The offenders might be treatable, but those children will never be okay. Ever.

With the right help and counseling, children can be okay.

I'm not saying all pedophiles can be helped, but some do want to stop and want to change. And sadly (this country anyway) does very little in the way of helping them do so. Even such things as rehoming them in family areas... what a stupid idea that is! But i mainly think the people who try to get help BEFORE they act on any of these impulses and cannot find it are being let down.
And mosco...if you truly wish to retract your question, you can request that the thread be locked, then it will simply disappear into the morass of other posts on the forum...
I PM'd moscovite to clarify his wishes.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about child molestation, and it leads to a lot of irrational fear. First of all, child molestation is different from child rape - it does not involve penetration. This does not make it ok, but it is not the "emotional and physical torture" that child rape is. Second, child molesters are no more likely to reoffend than any other criminals. There are factors that make it more likely, and factors that make it less likely. A child molester who is diagnosed as a pedophile is more problematic. But VERY FEW child molesters are pedophiles ... many, if not most of them, are people under the influence of drugs or alcohol who lost sight of the boundaries.
Any crime involving children is likely to cause outrage because children are such vulnerable victims. But there really are degrees of wrong, just like there are for adults.

omigod. I just went to the website that lys gave, and put in my old zip code in NYC... and the page was literally covered with offenders.
They already distinguish between offenses against children and "regular" rape and sexual battery, but I wish they would further break it down. I heard that sometimes people get convicted of "child molestation" and put on the registry because they sleep with a teenage girl that's a little bit underage. (Which is still creepy, but not quite the same level...)
And re. survivors of child molestation and/or other terrible crimes - the WORST thing you can do for them is say that they are ruined for life, damaged goods, will never be OK, etc. Or define them only by that one experience. They are normal people that something bad happened to - it IS possible for them to recover and to live a normal life - hell, with the rates out there, do you know how many "terminally screwed-up" women you'd have wandering around if that weren't true? The reason most survivors don't tell people is that they don't want to be looked at that way - don't want to forevermore be "that girl who got ***** by her dad" or whatever. They will definitely need counseling and help, but this does NOT have to define them forever, nor does it determine their entire future.

Well put, trustwomen.
As per the original poster's (moscovite82) request, I am going to ahead and lock this. She felt that this post was causing a bigger stir than she intended.
Thank you.
