Just give him money.  Let him do whatever he wants with it.  18 is a hard age (I'm 19) and if he doesn't want a party and you can't afford a car, he is going to want $ to put in savings to save up for a car.

Thank You

I would ask him what he really would like. I have a 16 year old son, and he is also very hard to buy for. You could offer to pay for a (responsble) night out with his friends or a small family group.

There may be something he really wants, or does he have a special interest (Warren is big in to drawing so art supplies are always a hit)

Don't know how much you want to spend, but a friend of mine bought her son a laptop for university.

A watch, expensive cologne.  A laptop,  An iPod, or new cell.  Give him a gift card to his favorite store.  Try to think of all the things he likes.

get him a bag of chronic.

Here is a two-fold gift ~ get a box, you determine the size and put small little boxes in it and then put a special small gift and the rest of the boxes put in money. Money in any denimation, even change.  But determine what is a reasonable amount to do this with and get a bunch of different sums of dollars and change.

If you sew you can make some small change bags and put a piece of yarn around them and fill with different denimations of money.  Grandma did this with my son and he enjoys this.  He always gets different amounts in each bag and the total is usually an odd amount.  That is the fun of it!  He's now 21 and they have done that since he was 16.

Good luck!  If you do this suggestion, get a camera and or a video camera and get this remarkable moment.

Take care and God Bless.

I think 'experiences' are good for milestone birthdays.   Something completely out of the ordinary that you can share as a family or with just a few close friends.  An overseas city-break.   A hot-air balloon ride.  Front-row seats at a lavish theatrical production or a major sporting event.   A nip round a race-track in a Formula 1 car.  People forget parties and gold watches gather dust in drawers but you can all look back on a shared experience and reminisce until the cows come home.

I like GI's idea of a trip.  Him and you-  somewhere; overseas; or Cross-Country Road trip....or tickets for him and his best friend to Amsterdam (I don't think you'd want to go there with him LOL!)

I guess a hooker is out of the question.
