Im eating about 50% raw now and tomorrow will be my first full day raw. If anyone else is interested in going raw then post here and we can morally support eachother. Also if "Rawist" want to post helpful things that would be great too.

im getting a juicer in a few days!!!! yay!  i was wondering how much fiber is lost through juicing vs. blending (with a blender of course).

i slipped a little with my veganism to vegetarianism for 1 meal (dessert of pie ice ream whipped cream and brownie... trust me, it wasnt worth it.)  i know this is for raw foodies, but i like my grains and beans cooked... i probably eat most of my meals raw, i love raw nuts and fruits and such

anyway- im excited for my juicer

What kind of juicer did you buy? I've read the high-speed kind which uses centrifugal force isn't the best choice because the friction of the blades cutting the veggie flesh causes heat- which can kill the enzymes and destroy some vitamins.

Where as, the kind used for wheat grass can also be used for juicing any vegetable. These operate at low speeds, less friction, less heat.

I have an Omega 8003 juicer which I absolutely love! After I finish juicing, I run the vegetable peels and scraps through it (rinds, seeds, cores, etc) just to grind up all those goodies for my compost bin.

You do loose a substantial amount of fiber by juicing as opposed to blending where you loose just about none. However, I find a lot of my green smoothies to be a bit too fibrous for my taste.

I run most of the tougher stuff (like Kale, parsley, and such) through the Omega, and add that juice into my smoothie. I don't mind doing this, because I get a lot of fiber from other sources. Of course that means I have two machines to clean, as opposed to one.

i got the omega 8003!  it mentioned that it didnt heat up as most juicers tend to do... i looked for wheat berries to grow my own wheat grass (at whole foods)... could not find them.  where can i buy those things???

I'm really trying to go cold turkey but I'm having really intense salty cravings. I really want to get a dehydrator to make raw crackerbread (I tried some of my teacher's yesterday and it was amazing) but they're so expensive.

I recently found this website:

Most of the recipes are raw and look delicious.  I have only tried the manicotti so far and it was great

Wow Eileen that fudge looks AMAZING. I'm still wanting salt and I've been giving in kind of :(. I'm pretty much going for as much raw as possible and then finishing out whatever other food I have here.

They should carry them in the bulk foods isle (where all the bins of nuts, cereals, and grains are kept.)  Just ask someone and they'll be happy to show you.

Anyone know which chains carry Nama Shoyu?  I've been looking at Whole Foods for several weeks (which I go to almost everyday for lunch).  The stock boy knows exactly what it is, and says they normally carry it.  However, today said they haven't been getting it in from their distributor.

Anyone know if Trader Joes or Earth Fare carry it?  I don't want to order online and pay shipping and all- not to mention the wait.

Hmm I haven't seen it at my trader joe's in Philly. I'm so in love with goraw.com, though. They have fantastic recipes. Tonight I'm going to make a really simple avocado soup.

Hi all!

I've been 90% raw for almost 3 months now and I feel so much better! Seriously! I'm surprised at how I haven't even thought about cheese or bread. Most raw vegan recipes consist of way too many nuts and seeds, I tried making nut loaves and lots other nut heavy recipes, but they all made me feel sick, and they're very fatty. I will eat air-popped popcorn, edamame and David brand  reduced sodium sunflower seeds, but other than that, here's what I'll eat in a day.

Breakfast:

Cherry smoothie— 3 cups of spinach, 1/4 cup of water, 1.5 bag of dark sweet frozen cherries

Lunch—Either a whole pineapple, or 6 peaches

Snack—Laura bar— raw fruit and nut bar—the peanut butter cookie is amazing! Just dates, peanuts and salt.

Dinner— a half watermellon, or edamame

Snack—popcorn or apples

Over the course of the last few months, my tastes have changed I feel like I've zeroed in on my most favorite foods, and I never get tired of them!

Anyone familiar with this site? It has an incredible amount of recipes!! They've got a recipe for sweet potato pie that looks so yummy!

That site is awesome. How much protein are you averaging when you eat that way. To me it seems like you are only getting about 10-15g because you are not eating much nuts.

I was doing pretty well with at least 75% raw but I went on vacation with the inlaws this weekend and pretty much abandoned it today lol. But monday is a new day and I'm going to try to stick to 100%. I'm still looking in to getting a dehydrator but I'm a bit short on funds :/. Oh well, someday.

Ive gotten my whole family dieting now. They were doing well till they made hamburger helper the other night. They were so sick about 2 hours later that they now swear to be healthy all the time. I still havent convinced them to try my shakes though...even though they are yummy the spinach and all my ingredients scare them for some reason. They will take a sip then pretend to be sickened...whatever lol. They use to eat horribly before I came back here while my husband is at Ft Jackson. They are even snacking on fruit throughout the day instead of chips :). Im definately snacking on grapes throughout the day. Probably like 30+ a day at least...I love the fact that they are so low calorie...vs any other snack that will just give you wasted calories

The cravings are gone now. Its crazy how you can live on raw. I think im turning into a fruitarian since I eat about 80% of my calories from it now. I have natural energy throughout the day. I actually could eat 100% fruit but I since the army wont be dealing with my diet choices I dont want to be "locked" up at basic

Hey I just noticed this post; I guess I should've posted my recipe here. I just posted a recipe about how to use up all of your nut pulp generated by making nut milk, if anyone's interested! How's everyone's forays into the raw wilderness going??

Here's an update if you're interested. After my 5 day trial, I've gone mostly raw.

I went raw, mostly for breakfast, lunch and snacks. For dinner I am having generally some cooked foods with my family. Since I started this about 2.5 weeks ago, I have lost 5 pounds. It's a nice side effect, but I don't feel that the raw foods "diet" is a diet. It's more of a lifestyle. I don't feel being a raw foodist is necessarily equal to being a vegetarian or vegan. I can see how it would be beneficial to some people, but at least now, I need to have meat too. I'm not comfortable yet with raw eggs and meat.

My biggest troubles are on the weekends, if I haven't prepared, if I went to long between meals/snacks, or when we're traveling.  Planning ahead seems to solve all of those issues.

Overall, I've enjoyed the new flavor combinations. I found that instead of chips, I really like sugar snap peas, spinach, or cabbage.  I've also found that salty stuff has tasted too strong for me. Spinach and celery have enough salty flavor for me.

I'm finding that I don't enjoy the preparation much, so I tend to eat things that I can just dive into. For example, for breakfast I had an apple, a banana, and a cucumber eaten individually.

I haven't tried sprouting or germinating yet. My schedule is sporadic, so I'm worried about wasting food by not following directions correctly. I think that will open a whole new set of options for cooking. Good luck to all of you!
