I am sooo scared- help!

Quote  |  Reply
My driving test to get my liscense is tomorrow and i'm so nervous I feel like i'm going to throw up.
I took it last week but didnt make it past the manuverabilty.  I had practiced with my dad a thousand times before and I probably could do it with my eyes closed.  Though I was nervous, I really didnt think that I would have a problem with passing.
But as soon as the instructer got in the car,  i went from a little nervous but confident to absolutely terified.   It didnt help that the instructer was kind of scary. : (  I think she must have been having a bad morning or somthing because she was kind of grumpy and snapped at me when I asked a kind of stupid question.
So I was really frazzeld and my hands strarted shaking and before I knew it I had run over one of thoes stupid cones.  Of corse I immideiatly burst into tears.....it was bad.

So anyways I'm so nervous about tomorrow and I just can focus on anything else.  This is my last chance to get my liscence before school starts up again and I can NOT ride the bus again.  The other kids made last year a living hell.

I just kind of wanted to get that off my chest and see if anyone could give me a little pep talk or somthing.....

Well, I won't suggest you take a shot ;)

Relax. Study if you want, though this close to the test, it probably won't help and I'm sure you HAVE been studying since last time. :)

So, relax... and good luck :) I'm sure you'll do well tommorow :)

And if you don't, come back and I'll tell you my story about my mother and the Post Office ;)
Deep Breath...

You will be fine, just focus.

************Good Luck***************
I was soooooo nervous when I went to get my liscense because my brother...the genious child, valedictorian, does everything perfect one....failed twice!

Don't be nervous...duh, easier said than done huh?...but you'll be fine.  When you get in the car just be cheery and ask "everybody buckled up?!" in a happy chipper voice, even if you have to fake it.  It'll give you brownie points, perhaps get you a friendly smile, and will lighten up your nerves. That's what I did, and I passed with flying colors!

GOOOOOOD LUCK!!!
HK has me curious now.....
Tommorow, if she fails.. or maybe tommorow if she passes :)
i failed mine twice... but i am the only one of my friends who hasn't been in an accident *knocks on wood*...

you'll do fine... deep breaths and remember your lefts and rights and you'll breeze right through... and when it's over you will never have to do it again!
thats weird, i drove much worse with my dad in the car, my 16yo daughter said she is alot more relaxed without me in the car - i think thats funny!

i'm sure you will do better tomorrow, cuz now you know what to expect since you are a vet, just watch out for the cones! good luck...
Shortly after my parents moved to Canada from Finland my mom decided she wanted a drivers license...  this is a woman who still doesnt speak english...   she passed the written portion by memorizing the pattern of letters in the question and the correct answer.. (back in the days before computers - they gave you a booklet with 150 questions and picked 30 for the test)

I have no idea how she passed the driving test...   probably scared the instructor so badly that he never wanted to see her again.. (small town - 1 guy)

Shes been a terror on the roads ever since...
I failed mine the first time I took it.  My son had to take it three times before he passed.  Hang in there, you will get it.  You are not alone...a lot of people fail the first time.  I'm thankful that I don't have to take it every four years when I renew my license...not sure I wouldn't fail it some days even after all my years of driving.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you ;-)
many moons ago I flunked my first 3 tests, and for the exact same reason you described.  Try not to think of it as your "last chance".  So what's the worst thing that can happen if you flunk?  You'll ride the bus for a while until you can pass it.  That's not the end of the world.

Good Luck and try to stay calm!

You can do it!!!! Lots of people dont pass the first time! I didnt. What worked for me was going early and getting into a good mind set. Take lots of deep breaths and remain calm. You have been practicing lots and this is just more practice. You are totally in control of the situation! You have practiced all this time and you will totally shine tomorrow. BREATHE! Get some shut eye tonight and go on and get it tomorrow. Get a mantra and just repeat it to yourself "I can drive! I am a driver." Sounds cheesy? It worked for me.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Best. SP
Thinking of you today!  Good luck, and come and tell us how you did.
Thank you so all much for your support.  I was really upset yesterday but reading all your post really made me feel better.  I really appreciate you helping me out.

I practiced the cones for hours last night and I was really confident.  i was not even letting the thought of failing cross my mind.

I passed to manuverabilty easily on the test.  Thankfully my instrcter was much more friendly this time.

Then on the driving portion I was doing pretty well, though I did have a coulple turns that were to wide.  But then we came to this fourway stop and it was the first time the man had not given me a direction to turn right or left.  So I was panicking in my mind thinking that mabey I haddent heared him or somthing.

Then for the first time EVER in my LIFE  I ran a stop sign.  I could not believe it!  I had never, ever run a stop sign or anything serious like that before as I said.

Thank God the intersection was clear and we returned back to the DMV safely without me killing anyone.  : )

This time I took it much better and only cried  a bit. :(
So I wont have my liscense for school...but my wonderful best friend and mom have vouluntered to drive me to and from school so i wont have to brave the bus.

I know it was just nerves again and I'm going to really work hard on polishing my driving in the two weeks till my next test.  I'm confident I'll pass next time with a cool head- esspecially since I don't have to do the stupid cones again!

So, Hk, I guess you can tell your story now.  : )

Thanks again for all the support.  I'm very greatful!
I'm glad you did better!!!  I can vision you running the stop sign... I backed into a car on my first attempt.  Oh well, you'll be a pro when you go next time.

(HHHHHuuuuugggggsssss)

Oh ya, Hk, spill it now :)
I had to retake my driving test in may because I'd let my driver's license expire by like 8 months. I was nervous doing the maneuverability and I'd had my license for almost 5 years haha
HK

Oh , please share.... we are waiting!!!!
oh and still waiting............

:)
I actually failed my driving test and still passed.

I got 55 x's out of 100 and passed.

4 years later, my licence is $800 because I keep crashing into shit. lol... oops!
You sound a lot better now!  Do you have to wait to take it again, or can you go back and do it right away?  My cousin just told me that when she moved here from another state she flunked it 5 (yes FIVE) times before she passed.  And she was a 40 year old who had been driving since she was 16.  She said the instructor made her so nervous!  So you're not alone!
my dad is a football coach and one year there was a kid on his team who failed 7 times... i kid you not..
