why am i not sore?

Quote  |  Reply

am i not working hard enough? i feel really tired and challenged during and directly after my workout, but i am not sore the next day.

i am doing hard interval training on the treadmill and i DO make a little progress every day in mile time, top speed, time spent sprinting, etc. so that's a good thing. but i'm afraid i'm not challenging my body because it used to be i was sore after every work out, but now i'm never sore. (i don't lift yet, is that why? but even when i didn't lift before i still got sore from running)

is it possible this is because i'm getting in shape?! or should i always be sore after exercising?

I never have been sore from cardio in my life. Not even after not working out for 5 months due to injury.  But when I do strength training I'm sore the next day every single time.

I was wondering the same thing this week.  It's new for me, because I was sore after every run for 4 weeks, and now I don't feel anything at all the day after.  I would like to believe that we're getting in shape :)

Soreness is a poor indicator of progress.

But I agree with sugar - I rarely get sore from cardio (except in the case of day-long or multi-day events - hikes, bike rides, kayaking). Oh, and the first time I get on the bike again - but I think that's more bruising.

This just means you're in shape!!! I'm always sore when starting a new type of exercise..no matter if it's swimming, running, biking, weight lifting, etc. But after a couple weeks I no longer get sore.

Every now and then weights will make me sore if I push myself extra hard, but I don't find that with cardio. Even if I push myself extra hard on a run, I'm never sore the next day.

Keep up the good work!!!!

When I saw the thread title, I thought that it was going to be in reference to lack of soreness from lifting. It is weird that you would always get sore from cardio. Usually the only time that people get sore from doing cardio is when they haven't stretched properly, or they do really high intensity stuff like sprinting for the first time. Sprinting can make your legs sore. However, in general most people don't get sore from doing cardio. They mainly just get tired/winded and have a feeling of being exhausted. Most of the time when people make reference to being sore, it is always in correlation with weight lifting.

I would say that you should get into lifting at least three times a week. Doing cardio is mainly for cardiovascular health and reshaping your body comes more from weight lifting.

thanks for the answers everyone, my mind is much more at ease. i can't believe the progress i'm making on my running - i'm going to keep pushing myself in that area and i'm finally going to tackle the task of lifting. the running is definitely not enough of a challenge so i guess that means it's time?

thanks again.

I don't get sore from cardio unless I overdo it, I've done double sessions all this week total 10h:45m training since Monday and for the first time EVER my legs are sore but I did do something a little difference with my weight training on Tues arvo...

I my upper body gets sore easily from weight training, apart from this week, my legs don't get sore from weight training. I've worked out though rather than getting sore my body just gets fatigued never sore..
