Hi,
So I bought a new workout DVD this weekend....Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred. Did it yesterday....20 mins....Level 1 workout. Today I am SO sore. My butt and my thighs especially. It says to do it everyday 20 mins a day. BUT, my legs hurt so bad to do the simplist things like going up and down stairs! Is it okay to work out again when your muscles are so sore? I'm going to walk on my treadmill today instead of run. I don't want to injure myself! I want to do the DVD again today....should I try it?
Any advice welcome....thanks!
I love Jillian and how she totally kicks your butt. There was another thread about this dvd and I think most of us there all noted how sore we were! Sore is okay, but Pain is not. Just take it easy and it'll get easier.
To my experience and knowledge is ok to exercise everyday even if your muscles are sore. Soreness is good-means that you put your muscles to work Check if the DVD you got has any other workout program that targets other muscles than butt and thighs. Maybe work on your upper body and abs more today. But don't worry about the pain. Unless is join pain and you should really be very carefull, any other is a good thing. Also don't forget to warm up before and strech after your workouts. Good for you!! Keep it up
the most important thing to do when you're sore from a workout is to keep moving, but take it easier. walking on the treadmill sounds like a great plan. if i were you i would do the tape every other day until you're not getting so sore afterwards and then move up to every day. it's important to stay consistant so you get all you can out of your hard work, but you also don't want to injure yourself because then you won't be able to work out at all!
i would also suggest taking a bath with epsom salt. THE BEST!!!
Did you stretch? When I started a new program I totally forgot to stretch and I was limping out of the gym. I remembered to stretch before and after the next time I was still a lil sore but not to the point where I couldn't do the exercises.
I say its important to keep working out ... especially at the beginning. Of course you might be moving slower, or not lifting your leg as high... but at least you are doing it, and that's the real challenge to overcome. I do agree with the others though... sore is not pain... and stretch stretch stretch... when you get to that part of the work out, ENJOY IT because you earned it! Good luck!
Well I did it!! I walked 60 minutes at 4 mph on my treadmill and did the DVD for 20 mins....and actually it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be! Going up and down stairs is so painful though, and as a mommy and housewife going up and down those stairs is something I do 10 million times a day! Today I'm trying to avoid hehe. That DVD is awesome. I hope I can keep it up for 30 days!!!!
Oooh this is coming in the mail this week. Woohoo, sounds like a good workout. I've been sore too from working out. I did take one day off after two of working out, but I was literally so sore I couldn't even move. I took a bath and then today I jumped back into it. It was hard, but I made it through.
Great job on the exercising. I thought I was doing good with a work out video every day, but now it feels like I'm barely trying compared to your schedule. Impressive. :)
If you are too sore to walk around and do normal day to day activities you should most definately not continue to workout. You are the only only one who knows if you are ready to perform a workout. Pain is not a good sign. take some time off or just take it very light until your legs feel better. if you continue to exercise through soreness you will never let your muscles recover and heal and could potentially lead to strains or pulls.
usually you don't want to work the same muscle groups two days in a row, muscle need time to heal so they can grow, i would limit that kind of workout to 3-4 days a week and work other muscle groups on the other days.
I am glad you did it! But I agree... if you are in pain, try working a different part of your body (ie your waist line or arms)... now if you are just sooore, what would Jillian say? (he he... okay... probably not "he he") Sounds like you did an amazing job working through the first two days though - AWESOME!
