When I'm training for a race, I do a lower mileage week every 7 to 8 weeks.  I bike or hit the elliptical for cardio instead.

Yes, you need a recovery week. A lot of the best training programs pull back the milage every 4th week for a recovery week. You still run, just less in that week.

How much of a pull back would you advice. btw- i am training for a 1/2 marathon in August.

wow - you're really running a lot of miles; congratulations on that!  from what I've read however, you need to cross train - add biking or something and don't run every day week after week.  I do "light" days during the week, no running on Fridays and a long run on Saturday - I believe it's best to not run the day before a long run -- but this may be old news to you!!  Sorry if I'm repeating what you already know; I'm new here but excited about the support the site offers

Thanks Everyone! i am actually taking this week off, completely. i am going to recover, drink lots of water and do light exercise, biking, jogging, weights. then get back to it next Sunday, i feel good about this, i just hope it is the "right thing".
