What could this be? Sorry if TMI!

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, so I posted in my journal about some "health issues" I was having and somone suggested it could be kidney stones so I fugured I'd come here and get some more opinions. Sorry if it's TMI.

Last night I kept having the urge to urinate but then when I would go only a tiny bit would come out and it was kind of painful and then when I wiped myself there was blood, but not period blood. This blood was like bright pink and it was coming from my urethra (the hole where the urine comes out of). There wasn't alot of blood but this has never happened before. This happened again in the earlymorning when I was getting ready for work. Then when I got to work and used the bathroom, all my symptoms were gone. So, I figured it wasn't much cause for concern. Anyhow my question is, should I still go to the doctor? What could this be?

It could be a lot of things. Call your Doctor, make an appointment.  Best of luck to you.
it could be a bladder infection. i used to get them and they would just pop out of nowhere like that and make me feel like i was peeing razor blades...

sounds most like a urinary tract infection***, which is not uncommon. start drinking LOTS of cranberry juice, and water, and go to your doctor. he or she will check it out...if it is UTI i think you get antibiotics.

*** not a diagnosis

That's what I thought too... a UTI but the symptoms only lasted a couple of hours then went away. Isn't that strange?

how long has it been? they may come back. i've had UTIs like that in the past.
I haven't had any symptoms since this morning around 7am.
i don't know where you are or how long that has been but i would still go to the doctor, esp since you saw blood.

Hmm, well I already have an appointment for a check up on Feb 1st to see if my Cholesterol levels have gone down. I could just mention it to her then if the symptoms don't come back. Do you think I could wait until then or should I make an appointment for sooner?

Edited to add: Oh, and I'm in FL so that was 9 hrs ago.

Go to the doctor even if the symptoms have stopped. You don't want to mess around with a bladder infection or a UTI (or anything else that makes you pee blood!). If you let it go, the infection can spread. It's safest to get on antibiotics.
How about a call to the doctor's office and let them decide if you should go see them?

smwhipple, that is a good idea but I just feel so uncomfortable talking to someone about that stuff over the phone, or irl for that fact. I wish I could IM my doctor, the computer seems to make things feel "safe" .

Could be cystitis. I used to get episodes of that all the time, long ago; my sister still does. Call your doctor. It's not deadly or anything dire, but your doctor can recommend the best way to handle it, if it is cystitis.

if it is a UTI and you only felt symptoms for a short time and then they went away that doesn't mean the infection went away too.

I had a UTI once that hurt like nobodies business for a day. The next morning I felt 100% better. That night I woke up in so much pain in my back I thought I had pulled a muscle... but remembering the painful flare up from the day before I called the doc just to ask about it. He told me to get in right away, that he thought it had migrated up into my kidneys (which was where my back was hurting). When I did my urine test in the cup there were so many white blood cells in it from the infection that it was like peeing pus... sorry for the TMI there... and they had to put me on the same antibiotic that they give to patience who have Anthrax... YIKES.

anyway, no sense waiting. Sometimes the littlest things turn out to really be big huge things in disguise, and sometimes they don't. But you won't know unless you check it out... and with any part of your body you are better safe than sorry and better sooner than later.

I have had kidney stones. The first time, I peed blood for a day and had intense pain, then I was fine for two days with no blood and no pain, then peeing blood and in agony again, etc. The doc said it changes as the stone moves down, getting stuck in places and causing tears that bleed as it moves. Definitely get checked out. Blood should not be coming from there, and kidney stones (and UTIs) can be incredibly painful if you don't treat them early.
oooooh sounds like uti ooowww owwww so sorry go to dr u may get flu like symptoms ang get really sick

Get a UTI test from the pharmacy.  They sell it next to the preggers tests.  Either way see the doc right away.  Mention you may have an infection and are in pain to please get you in asap. Take care of yourself.

See a doctor ASAP - it could be either an infection (serious) or kidney stones (also serious)... please don't wait until February or your kidneys and bladder might be permanently damaged. Blood coming from anywhere it's not supposed to be needs to be taken seriously.

So don't tell them your name, just tell them that you're a patient on the phone.  Alternatively, you could call an immedicenter or go to one where you can get medical help, but no one would know you.  That's what I do when I'm really sick on a weekend or during a time that your doctor can't fit you in, if I don't tell my doctor about an appointment like that she doesn't know so there's no need to feel embarrassed.  Possibly an organization like Planned Parenthood might be able to help you.  I took a college age friend to our local one when she had a UI and didn't want to have it show on her medical records that her parents would see.

smwhipple is right.

This is your health libory, you only get one body.  One life, take care of yourself.  The docs see this kind of stuff all the time, and whatever it is you have kidney stones, uti or anything, it happens to many people.  Please don't        not  go to the doc because you feel embarrassed, it will be ok and you will feel much better both mentally and physically.  (this is coming from someone who is painfully shy, so I can relate, as i am sure others on this forum can too.  So go the imediate care center, doc asap.)

Truly I say this with all sincereity take care please.

whats TMI? and why would you be sorry about it?
