what to get your (sort of) new boyfriend for christmas?

Quote  |  Reply

I've been dating this great guy for a few months, and now that christmas is approaching i want to get him a gift.

what i'm wondering, is how personal of a gift can i get him without seeming -how do i put this- suffocating? like i don't want to be too sappy, but i don't want to get him something generic either.

help!

-i posted this in the lounge but considering i'm 16 and a half, and my boyfriend is 17, i'd figure other teens would have a better imput-

:)

maybe if he wears jackets or hoodies alot you could buy him a new one? or something like that? sorry im not much help

I think one of the best not-yet-serious relationship gifts are toys.  There are tons of companies that make toys for grown ups (I like thinkgeek.com), but even has regular toy stores have tons of stuff that an adult guy would love. It's also fun to get some kind of toy that you guys can play with together.  (I gave a boyfriend a pair of ping pong ball shooters for his birthday one year, and we spent the afternoon running around the house and yard shooting each other.  It was really fun.)  Tickets to concerts or sporting events are another easy option.

last year when me and my boyfriend had only been togther for about a month, i bought him Superbad on DVD because he loves that movie and it had just came out, and a big hershey bar that was christmas themed on the front haha.

I am in the same posistion, although I am a bit older than you.

Just get him something that shows you were paying attention to what he likes/needs.  Like if you notice his wallet is old and beat up get him a new one, or if you know he likes a particular band get him their new album.  It doesn't have to be mushy, just something cool that shows you know what he is into, good luck :)

I'd get him some festive sweets or gingerbread or the like, and then... well, is there anything he particularly likes as a hobby you can get something small as a contribution to? Say if he liked playing the guitar, you could buy him a decent set of picks and then a bar of chocolate or something like it. That or what Morgan suggested: if there's something he needs you could get him a new one of, go for that. Basically - I'd say two small gifts, one lasting, one fleeting.

hmm. you guys haven't been together for too long, so don't spend too much money.

music or a cool t-shirt is always good.
or you can bake him his favorite kind of cookies.
that's always sure to go over really nice. guys are constantly hungry, so it's thoughtful AND useful! haha

I agree with the other posters- it doesn't have to be pricey, but personal is always best.  You could burn him a CD of songs you think he'll like, or buy him a movie you know he'll love.  Food is always acceptable, too, of course.  Baking him cookies shows him you put effort into making the gift for him.  Festive food is great, too- after we had been dating a couple months, I gave my boyfriend a tin of peppermint bark for Christmas, and he loved it.

I have an idea!

Get him some cologne, that is super easy, not to personal but kinda!

Drea3:  A) She just started dating the guy, B) she's just 16!  Maybe they arn't neccesarily in the sack yet?

Anyways, I agree with everyone else.  Get him something slightly personal, but not too expensive and perhaps some sort of candy.

I like the toy idea, and I don't know where you live but last year I bought a guy friend a Super Soaker [because in Australia we have water fights on Christmas] :D and he loved it.

I've made friends 'mix tapes' [well, burnt CDs] of the kind of music they like and thats always nice. But it usually only works when you're into similar sort of music.

I'm assuming he likes food? bake some gingerbread people :)
