I'm not an expert, but that does sound something like an eating disorder to me.   I'm sorry it's making you miserable!  It really doesn't sound like much fun to be 14 and going through your day being so worried about things like that.  There is so much other stuff you could be doing and having fun with.  That's great that your mom is helping - having someone to talk to should make a really big difference.  Have you made an appointment with somebody already?
technically, yes. simply because 1000 cals isn't enough, you should be having a MINIMUM of 1200 calories a day. and you are a few pounds underweight i think. for 5'8", (i am too) you should weigh a minimum of 125, but i've heard several different things. good luck!
I'm going through the same problem!!!!
I have been thinking about what I would eat ALL THE TIME for months and I have been checking my calories and obsess with this like crazy. I'm 16 and I'm 153 cm and 45 kg. My BMI is around 19-20 and I have been talking to people on this website since yesterday. Some said that I should get some help. Unfortunately, I'm living in USA....thousand miles away from my parents in Thailand so I might have to stop thinking about this by myself. I'm not sure abt your case but as far as I go through for a few months....if it's miserable...I would get help. It's not fun to be a teenager and eating all this healthy all the time.....
By the way...I just turn 16 like...last month

If you have to ask...

Pretty much, an a person is considered to have an eating disorder when they do not eat or think about food as their general population.  Some people obsess over food and overeat, some obsess and don't eat at all, etc;

I recommend a movie call A Secret Between Friends.  You can see it in parts on Youtube.  It really accurately outlines the thought process of people with eating disorders.

Your stats sounds like you are on the low end of your weight range.  I would say you do not have to worry about your weight, so long as you eat a healthy diet and eat the recommended amount to maintain your weight.

Go to a doctor for professional advice now before it becomes more of a problem.  Be completely honest.  While there are millions of us on here tracking calories, it is so we can be conscious of what we eat to make healthy decisions, not so we can cut down more and more each day and go below our healthy weights.

If you obsess too long, you will no longer be able to see yourself for who you are.

Obsessing about what you're going to eat and continously calculating your calorie intake is a disordered behavior. Your BMI at 5'8" & 123lb is not too healthy either. As a teenager, 1000cal intake is NOT ENOUGH! For an adult with a slower metabolism and without muscle/bone growth, 1200cal/day is an minimum requirement for body to function (if lying in bed all day). For teenagers with much growth process going on, you need at least 1600cal/day (if you are lying in bed all day long).

That being said, yes, I think you need some help to be healthy and happy. Cutting back is not a good behavior, especially when you're as thin as you are. You are NOT fat - you need to gain more weight! I'm a recovered annorexic, and trust me - there are so much to life than calorie calculations.

yoon2 - Oh!! How bad is anorexia?? I think the only thing that keeps me away from asking the nurse for a thorwing up pills in a parrt of me know that starving myself will NOT make me loose weight and I could become MUCH fatter if I do so...

Forcing yourself to throw up is bulimia, not anorexia, and I'd be shocked at any school nurse willing to give a child anything like that, unless they were clearly food-poisoned in some way. Yeah, bulimia can make you thin - it can also make your teeth fall out.

Look you're 14 years old. You're just developing, and that takes a lot of nutrients. If you don't give your body those nutrients, you're not going to get the development that makes you a woman. (Especially because you're a female. Starving yourself can even cause you to skip periods. Not in an "Oh yay" way either. In a "You could seriously screw up your reproductive system" way.)

I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just trying to tell you that no matter how concerned you are with how you look NOW, it is NOT worth damaging your body.

The other thing that concerns me, and if this does not apply to you then please don't be offended, is that this topic even came up. At 12-16 years old, everyone loves to be "the one with a problem". If someone KNOWS they have a problem, and post things like this to have people validate it, its almost like they're trying to flaunt it. There's nothing cool about having an eating disorder. Yeah, it might be netting the person attention and pity now, but when they're 18 or 19 and still sick and feeble, they're really going to hate that they did this to themselves.

Why are you so worried about what your eating?? I'm 5'8" 123 lbs and it looks as if I don't have an ounce of fat on me!!! We are classified as "underweight" but depending on your bone structure you may just be normal. Since you only eat 1,000 cal a day it's hard to tell if that is a healthy weight for you or not. I, being the same weight/height eat about 1900 cal a day.

I don't know much about ED's, but from what I can see on this site, the calorie counting and food obsessing is very popular. I mean, obviously it's a problem, but the question you need to ask yourself is can you stop yourself from obsessing?

If you can't you should talk to someone. But I'm sure your beautiful so there's no need to obsess!

I'm also 20 years old!

What does this even mean???

I think u should really get some help girl

I was reading in one of my textbooks today that dieting (unless you are obese) before you finish puberty (around 18-19) can cause you to be more obese as an adult, because you train your body to survive in starvation mode. Therefore, as an adult, your body grasps on to every ounce of fat it can in order to protect itself should you starve it.

Therefore, restricting your calories at your age may set you up for more problems with your weight later in life.

Also, the 1200 calorie minimum is for ADULTS. You need to keep in mind you are still growing, and therefore your body needs more calories. There was a website someone posted awhile back that calculated the number of calories teens need according to their weight and height, however I cannot find it. I know that at 19, 5'3'' and 128 pounds (note: I am nowhere near being overweight, and I weigh seven to five pounds more than you and am a whole five inches shorter. While I'm not basing my conclusion on any scientific measurement, I'm pretty sure this lends itself to the idea that you are very probably underweight.)

Basically, establish a healthy relationship with food now, one in which rather than counting calories, you make it a goal to eat nutritious foods, in order to avoid weight, mental and health problems later down the road.

ED is a serious illess and there's nothing fancy about that. If you ask me how "bad" it is, it's just as bad as every other illness, maybe worse because YOU are killing yourself, not some other pathogen. If you're getting excited about ED, I think you need to seek help.

I know it may sem like I am looking for attention, but that really ISN"T what I am after. I want help so bad right now, you have no idea. And yes, I haven't had a period since either july or august. I want to be healthy. When I posted this forum, i thought I would maybe get one or two replys, not 14! if I would have known I was getting this many replys, I would have never posted this forum. I am planing on deleting it as soon as you read this, because it is making me feel stupid and horrible, knowing people think I posted this just looking for attention. This isn't making me feel an ounce better; but thank you for your reply.
yoon2 - i'm sorry if the way I write or post it sounds like I'm excited over being these ED. Forgive me since I'm not speaking english as a first language....
I'm not excited about it AT ALL. I'm going through hard time because I'm in a boarding school in US...thousand of miles away from my parents and they don't understand how miserable I have been for the past 2-3 months. I have been counting calories of EVERYTHING and I tried to squeez my stomach coz I feel like I'm fat ALL THE TIME. I feel bad over everything I eat and now I can't tell weather I eat it because I was hungry or because I just want to and  I don't know if I'm full yet or not and I feel like I'm gonna explode.
Anyway...I just talked to school nurse todaya and  just found out anoher 4 girls in my dorm is going through the same thing.....and I'm seeing nutritionist tomorrow..
And I'm not asking for any attention or pity and I didn't get excited to see people suffer drom those ED either.
