Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k Does this sound odd - 175 to 178 in 2 days?
I weighed myself 2 days ago = 175
I have been staying well within my calories and exercising daily.
I jumped on the scale this morning = 178
I am assuming that would be muscle gain????
Any pearls of wisdom?

It could be water weight. When that happens with me, I'm usually retaining water.
today everyone has convinced me it could be:
muscle
crap (literal)
water weight.
unless you pigged out in your sleep ;) tee hee.

Sometimes our bodies also hold on to water...that time of the month, if you've had high sodium intake.
Also, could be muscle gain.
Make sure you take your measurements up front so you can better track the non-scale related changes. Take a look at your sodium intake over the past couple days.

This could be muscle gain, but I have a feeling it's water weight.. Have you been compensating some of the sodium you intake with water? If not, I would definantely believe it's water retention. Drink more of the good stuff (H20) =D
its water flucuations.
or scale flaw.
trust me, unless you are on steroids, gaining 3 lbs of muscle in 2 days is impossible.

I have had the same problem - but it's really nothing to worry about. I know you want the scale to be more encouraging, especially because you're doing EVERYTHING right - counting all the calories, eating properly, exercising etc etc. But the fact is, your body will take a while to get used to this new regime. Just make sure you don't eat too few calories (especially if you're exercising) and drink plenty of water (flush out your system).
My weight dropped quite a bit in the first week, and as soon as I got into my workout and my diet, it jumped right back up and has stayed steady for a week now. But I can FEEL that my clothes are looser, and I know that I'm doing everything right. I once spoke to someone who said that, if you are exercising, you have to give yourself at least 4-6 weeks to see proper results on the scale.
My best advice: throw the scale out! Try to weigh yourself once a month. I know that's what I'm going to do :^)

thanks all! I feel much better now.
I weighted 181 Monday and today I weighted 182.5. I am dying to see the 170's again and it is making me nuts. If that makes you feel better. I seem to do that alot. I weight every morning when I get up after I go to the bathroom. I go down 2 or 3 days in a row and then I go up for 2-4 days then back down. I am wachting my calories like a hawk so I know it must be water, etc. Plus I am having my period. Try not to stress too much.
It's more about your body fat than your weight, try getting a tape measure and measuring your hips, waist, thigh and arms. That way you'll know how many inches your loosing and you'll stop looking at the scale. Most scales wont tell you how much muscle you have or how much fat you have, so you really have no idea unfortunatly, but at least by keeping track of your inches you can focus on more what you look like which is ultimatly what we all care about :)
