Anyone doing or have already done this program? I am on day 4 of phase 1 and very pleased with the results!
how can you start this diet? buying the book and following the instructions? is it expensive? is milk allowed in phase 1? thanks
Sorry no milk in Phase 1 But low fat cheeses and some of the veges give you your calcium I would take a suppliment. I Did!!!
Yes deppressive, I have found the book to be sooooo helpful! No Milk as getfit said. But lite cottage cheese, lite string cheese and I believe (correct me if I am wrong getfit) lowfat yogart. If you are a carb/sugar addict this is the ticket for you!
FYI, my goal is to be 135-140, I am currently 153.

Here are the updates since the 2003 release of the book. These come straight from Dr. agatston. He made these changes as new knowledge of the Glycemic Index became available. I lost about 40m pounds on SB.
1.two servings per day can be included on the Foods to Enjoy list of Phase 1:
3. Carrots Allowed phase 2
Previously, carrots were on the Foods to Avoid List in the first two Phases. They were also limited in Phase 3. Now, carrots are allowed beginning with Phase 2.

- 1 percent milk
- fat-free milk
- low-fat plain soy milk (4 grams of fat per serving)
- 1 percent or fat-free buttermilk
- fat-free plain yogurt

HAHA.... I had to go get my book lol... Mine says no yogurt, But They have revized it a little bit over the years. Mine is 3or 4 yrs old,And they changed there minds about bananas in phase 2 so it seems reasonable that they changed and added yogurt back to phase 1. The funny thing is the book says no dairy in phase 1 but they say its okay to have Fat free 1/21/2 in your coffee. I guess thats the secret of making this diet stick you can be flexable even in the strict phase. Some of the recipes in phase 1 call for no nos. I guess a little milk wont hurt. Its good for you too.
Look it up on About.com. Dr. Agatston used to post this on his free website, but then it became a pay for use diet website. I would be interested to read the new paper-back copy of the book.
hlraphael have you bought the recent cookbook? Ive tweeked a couple of the recipes so there a little lower in calories. Do you think Im ruining the effect by doing this
I LOVE IT! Can we PLEASE keep this thread going?!?!?!? I am finding it soooo helpful to interact with others doing South Beach with such great success!

Hi Everyone! I started the SB Diet 2 years ago and lost the 20lbs that I needed to lose (I am 5'8", 135 lbs now and 33 years old). I have also been able to stick with the principles and not gain a single pound back! I love the cookbooks and I have helped to lower my fiance's cholesterol as well.
I am getting married next month so I joined CC to try to lose an additional 5 pounds before the big day, but I still follow the SB principles and love to make the recipes. I have also started working out 5 days a week. I am a huge fan of the diet and it really isn't hard to incorporate into your everyday life forever. I cheat every so often, but it is easy to pick right back up where you left off the next day. I encourage everyone who asks me about my weight loss to look into the diet, it really taught me how to completely change my eating habits in a healthy long-lasting way.

My name is Sarah and I have no idea how to make a profile. So Here goes........Im 5'6 " and 182lbs and want to weigh around 140 I used to be over 202. Id put up a pic but I got a really bad haircut a couple of weeks ago..........too short... needs to grow out before I can get it shaped better.
1. 1 package brocolli slaw
2. 2Tblsp sesame oil
3. 2Tblsp your fav vinegar
4. 1tsp granulated chicken bullion
5. 2Tblspn nuts (opt.)
6. splash of water
a couple of packets of splenda if you want it sweet or not if you want it tangy. Mix all the liquids together + bullion and splenda then add cabbage or brocolli slaw. This is similar to another salad that uses roman noodles I just made it southbeach friendly!!!!!You could use the bullion packet out of the roman noodle pack. toss and enjoy. Its really strong at first some people dont like it.

Sounds YUMMY! I will try it this weekend!
My husband and I have been on SB since April. I've lost 20 lbs and he has lost almost 30. I have found that we have to be very careful with carbs, especially if eaten in the morning. For some reason if we have even high fiber cereal in the morning for 2 or 3 days in a row, weight loss stagnates. I've experimented with this several times with the same result so I'm pretty sure it's not coincidence. I have really had to experiment with different carbs and at what point in the day that I eat them and what I eat with them. That would be true with any weight loss program though. I think I've stuck with SB because I like the recommended foods anyway, and there are so many recipes out there it makes it easy to keep our meals interesting. I do miss some things, though, like pizza and potatoes.
My Husband wont give up dark meat or red meat or beer. Hes never been a sugar hog like me. I LOVE DESSERTS.....He loves beer the funny thing is he consumes as many calories in beer that I used to in sweets. He never gained weight like I did. So jealous of him. I have had pizza this week I just made it with flat out multigrain bread and baked it in the oven with Veges and cheese. Great when my kids want Pizza hut. I dont really want the bread so much as I want an edible holder for the toppings. I got tired of putting it on veges. Good for a treat and not that bad for my body. Haven touched a potato for a long time....... I really miss the pasta though.
My dad actually suggested this diet to me. More to stop me craving carbs and messing up my insulin or something, but I think I'm going to follow through with it. I have sort of started it today, although I'm shaking like crazy and i'm going through carb withdrawal (lol).
Yes getfit, the donuts, cake and cookies has always been my downfall! But I have made do with the Phase one allowance treats like sugar free jello and no sugar added fudgesicles! I have also been counting the calories just to see where I am at, and I have found that I am still right around 1200 calories!
So sachapp, you have lost 20 pounds since April! That is amazing! In what stages did it come off? How much in the 2 weeks of Phase one? I am down 3.5 lbs. after 4 days!
