Anyone doing or have already done this program? I am on day 4 of phase 1 and very pleased with the results!
Thats Okay Carie...Wannabehott I feel your pain, its not like hunger pains Its just a different sort feeling, it gets better after the first 2 wks, Fruit tastes like heaven and sugarfree fatfree vanilla yogurt tastes a lot like icecream. I eat my allowed carbs as my night time snack to avoid that slight sugar spike. It also gives me a reason to be good all day long.
How hard was that, THe stupid icecream truck came around and of course my kids wanted some. He didnt even have nosugar added fudge pops or low fat stuff. But gold stars for me I didnt give in. I just needed to keep myself from watching my kids eat the stuff. so thats why I ran back here. I do need to think about dinner though. THanks everyone
Good job getfit! Ya, well I've decided that I'm going to stay on this diet until I lose all the weight. How much did everyone lose in the first two weeks (phase 1)? I'm kind of skeptical about losing 8-13 pounds in two weeks because won't it just come back on?????
It is weird, the whole carb withdrawal thing. I was cooking a roast with my sister today and when we were cleaning up, I turned into the Incredible Hulk or something and started getting REALLY mad about the stupidest thiings! It was weird!
I'm really excited to do this, but for some reason I just want to start it tomorrow and binge tonight. I'm not going to though!
Also, how much should you exercise on this diet?

Im a southbeacher, or SBer for short. I posted the below on a thread that died so here goes ...
Have any SBers been to http://www.sbdbb.com ? Its a SB forum with unfortunately very little activity BUT it has a wealth of info on SB diet. The sticky posts at the top of each forum are particularly helpful like Phase I has Foods To Avoid, Foods To Eat and Meal Model thread.
Im so glad to see SBers here because it is the diet I can stick to and Ive a long journey to be on it. Im actually on an extended version of Phase 1, eating occasional good carb usually from their breakfast wraps. Im late here but I hope you guys stick with it because nice to have fellow SBers.

Sun, how much weight have you lost on the south beach?
Yes sun, how much have you lost on SB and in what time frame? What "Phase" are you in?
Sarah...You are amazing passing up the icecream when your kids were getting some! Great job!
Well, today I begin day 5 and weigh in at 153.5, that is 3.5 lbs down in 4 days. My food is packed and I am ready to face the day armed with Turkey roll ups and pistacios!
I will check in later!
Have a great weekend!

wannabehott I would take advantage of that incredible hulk feeling and maybe work out. Doesnt matter what kind, how much..or how far. Exercise boosts my mood. Ive gotten to where I like to sweat.... Makes me feel like the lbs are melting off. I used to hate, it thought it was gross. Sun what phase are you in?
I have thankfully not have had really bad "symptoms" of the carb withdrawl!
Sarah, how are ya today?!?!?!?
Sarah, how are ya today?!?!?!?
WEEK 1-2: I started June 18th but am so large I couldnt weigh in on a normal size doctor's scale. After dieting two weeks, I found a special scale and weighed in 444 lbs. I decided I would weigh in every 2 weeks - week 2, week 4, week 6, etc.
WEEK 3-4: I continued with Phase I. During my 4th week, I realized when I was eating I wasnt hungry and decided not to eat unless I was. For two days I ate 750-800 calories and thought with effort I could drop down to 500 calories daily. My justification was Im immobile so I dont really burn anything plus Ive this enormous reserve of fat to draw from so the last 4 of my 14 days I was on 500 calories. I weighed in at 431, lost 13 lbs.
WEEK 5-6: I continued with 500 calories another 10 days until I went online to research it extremely low calorie dieting for my obesity level? Instead I read about Matilda Callaghan whose death last year was blamed by the pathologist on 6 months of a 500 calorie diet. I read up on the Famine response, in which the body is unable to selectively decide which cells to break down for protein so in addition to consume body muscles, it breaks down the cells of the lungs, liver, heart etc. WAKE UP CALL. With 4 days left in week 4, I went back to eating Southbeach regularly. I weighed in at 429, lost 2 lbs.
That was 2 days ago and Im still in shock. A 431 lb person on 500 calories for 10 days and then 1200 for 4 days losing 2 lbs. It doesn?t even seem possible. . I wouldn?t have believed it if I hadnt seen it myself. I have a whole new respect for the concept of Starvation mode.
The online information was a needed kick in my big butt to quit the 500 calories and the 2 lb weight loss will remain a punishing reminder. I know that following my first 4 weeks my weight loss will slow down but at my weight, I should expect to lose more weekly then at 200 or even 300 lb person ? its percentages. Hopefully, I will comeback with a vengence for my 8th week weigh-in.

You will sun! You are motivated and in the right place for support!!! I am on day 5 of phase one and I LOVE IT!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! Go sun...go sun!!!
Thanks Carrie! Hope the carb withdrawl thing isnt too rough on you. The amazing thing is how initally I missed the carb kick of fullness to now being unbelievably grateful that removing that "kick" has removed the cravings which makes dieting SO much easier. I realize everyone has there own crutches but I was a carbaholic so Im particularly appreciative.
Hope I dont freak anyone out but I tagged some who post often as 'friends'. With so many here and my sad memory, it helps me remember folks.
BTW that southbeach forum www.sbdbb.com has kept up with the updates since the books so eventhough its slow for new posts, its current on what is/isnt allowed.
I third the motion on the Southbeach Diet book although Ive only made the ricotta desserts as Im not the cook. Ive read elsewhere folks hating it but the dessert is similar to canolli filling, which I love. To start SB I basically used the info before the recipes and the SB site I mentioned.

Bump
I really want to buy the cookbook. I'm glad my dad suggested this diet to me because I thought that it was just a scam like pretty much everything else!
Sun, good for you for losing weight and changing your life. I"m sure you'll get to your goal weight... what is it anyway?
I went for my first non carb run today and wow was I cranky (I went with my dad), but then we started talking about losing weight and everything and my mind was taken off of the running and it was pretty good. I'm going to stick to this diet!
I'm probably one of the youngest people to do this diet!

Hi everybody. I'm not following the southbeach diet, but I think what I'm following must be a cousin of it. It has alot of the same principles. It is the Forever Young Diet and Lifestyle. My typical day of eating consists of 4-8 oz of lean meat, or chicken, turkey, fish, or seafood, 7-9 servings of the good veggies (not potatoes or corn or peas), a Minimal amt of whole grains, not even 1 serving every day, but maybe 1 serving every 3 days. Also, Almonds in small amts, and also fruit, like apples, grapes, strawberries, and blueberries. I eat lite string cheese occasionally and low fat cottage cheese. And I drink between 96 and 160 ounces of plain water daily. I have been following this program since May 23rd of this year and have lost 39 pounds. I don't have cravings, I don't feel hungry, except normal hunger when it's time to eat, and I don't feel weak.
I applaud all of you for following that healthy diet and lifestyle, and wish you continued success. I admire your comeraderie on this thread too. Give yourselves a hand!

Wannabe - if you intend on getting the SB Cookbook, you'll find plenty of folks selling it less then $5 on Ebay. I dont really know what my weight goal is. Im 5'6" and this site set me at 139 lbs but 15 yrs ago I got down to 145 and was rail thin. Personally if I get below 200, I will be happy so maybe 175.
Humorpam - your diet sounds so similar to southbeach! Is it also a very low calorie diet - less then 1200 calories daily?
Carrie- When all I had was the notes in front of the cookbook to go on, it was that site that helped so Ive big admiration for it but I havent really been back - too slow. Just a wealth of info though. I didnt even know you could TAG a thread until reading it hear which has made it so easy to come back and see everyones updates.
Very cool that we have folks so early into the diet.
