Hi azndude, as you might tell we dont hold anything back here - welcome.  It is important to find what works for you. Keep in mind, THIS IS JUST MY EXPERIENCE AND NO PROMISE FOR THE DIET.  That said, for me Southbeach did two major things.  First it got me off my carb cycle which was filling up on them and then craving more hours later.  It was a binging process because I was consuming a serious load of carbs, all high calorie.  The second thing was that it put my appetite under control.  IAlso carb related but because there was no previous carb heavy meal that I was coming down from,  I felt hungry instead of ravenous.  I still have moments but there only occasional and no where near how previously it was a regular thing.

BTW you do get carbs unlike atkins but theyre healthy carbs and introduced gradually.  The fact that it is really healthy is a perk because I wasnt overly concerned about that but am more conscious of it now.  JUST my experience.  If you try it, feel free to post here.  There several of us here loyal to the SB way for good days and bad.  BTW on the first 2 weeks phase 1 which is the strictest version, most have us have had a strong weight loss.

Carrie - does "SAVED BY THE ANTS!" sound familiar?  Kiki's not staying at the movie kept me from the rice pudding and (had to scroll back for the specifics) the ants ruined your apple turnover temptation.   The good thing is that you contained it today Carrie.  Kiki & I got into a mess earlier and if I wasnt so upset to lose my appetite, I couldve easily gone the opposite direction with it as well.
Morning ladies!!

Hope everyone is well, and congrats on the weight loss last thursday.  I took Thursday & Friday off work last week - I really needed a break.  My boyfriend did too & it was really nice to spend time together!!

My weight is still 133lbs, but still havent started my new diet yet.  will be starting this week though.

So how is everyone after the weekend??
AHHHHHHHAAAAAAA....."saved by the ants!!!!" Yes, now I remember! (I swear my short term memory is lost!) Okay, now I have to re read your post!
Well, I am holding at 150 today! Not bad after my eating fiasco! Wishing everyone prayers of healthy eating at Labor Day cookouts!

Morning All,

Hope you had a good weekend. Wish I had found some ants.  I could just slap myself, had a human day yesterday!!!

Had 2 glasses of red wine, then had a scoop of ice cream, then a piece of bonoffie pie, (excuse the spelling) not enough water, not enough good food, no exercise and guess what the weight has gone up.  Why do we do this to ourselves, it makes me so mad and you know what is going to happen.  Then Mr. Devil kicks in --- ah! just a little won't hurt but it does. This was my 7th day on SB!!!!!  So in total had:-

1 major yesterday & 3 minor blips over the week - its the red wine I'm sure then your poor body has to get rid of the toxins before it can get rid of the rubbish that has been eaten.  AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Im so mad--have a Birthday next Saturday and wanted to have lost at least 5lbs--I m open to verbal abuse for being so wimpish, so bring it on!!!

Anyway, enough about me.

Mary

Oh Mary, don't beat yourself up! Did you see what I ate yesterday?!?!?!?! YIKES! Make today a better day!!!!!
Good morning everyone hubby is still here but just wanted to check in real quick.  Im holding at 172 and ohboy was I bad this weekend...Went to state fair and demolition derby yesterday with the family.  I did really well before we got there but then had a huge turkey leg to split with my kids.  1 icecream cone a bag of candied nuts and yogurt covered raisins.  a couple of swigs of mock strawberrie daquri that my daughter had.  Plus not enough water.  We were there for ten hours walking most of the time I think thats the only thing that saved me thatand carrying the baby and chasing her....Was worth it though as it was my birthday celebration and had a blast....Back on track today....Missed you all over the weekend....Back on the bandwagon ladies we can do it!!!!  See you all tomorrow!!!!
Hey Ladies,

Dont beat yourselves up over what happened yesterday.  that was yesterday - you can't change it!!  You can only look to the present and to the future.

Sounds very philisophical (lol), but I think there is some truth in it!!
Im exhausted.  Kiki doesnt have it easy compensating for me being so physically limited and her just 16.  She also lashes out when angry.  Yesterday after much shopping and carrying the burden of it, she went off on me being ridiculous/ pathetic.  Since it was particularly hitting me that despite my weightloss, my mobility has gotten worse it, the words hit home a little too close and I was upset the night. Strangely of things that set her off this is normally NOT one.  She surprisingly apologized and has said far worse before. Another time this would have rolled right off on me.

I used to minimize my walking at work but Ive now worked 5 months from home with little removal from my chair.  Its a no pain situation which has been a great.  It also has worsen things and as my boss/friend said, Ive got to force myself to just get up regularly and walk some.  New day today and planning to rebound.

Hey Gina - nice long weekend there!  Good job hanging in.  Knew you were considering alternate diets.  Have you decided on a plan?

Mary - perhap its the holiday spirit but its behind you now.  You can still surprise yourself on what you a comeback you can make - Carries just shown us so no verbal lashing LOL, just remember you can turn it around.
Hey Sun,

Just a question - have you gotten to the root as to why Kiki is so angry?

I consider myself.....no, I am a soft person.  I take things said to me to heart.  I try not to, and I really hate that my face can be read like a book.

I think that sometimes, especially TOM, hormones go crazy and emotions can get the better of us, but I am happy to hear that she apologised though.

As for the diet, its called the figure maker.  Its based on metabolism, and getting it optimised using a healthy diet, exercise and supplements. My local gym does it.  I have done it before, and have the stuff from my previous times, however I cant find the motivation to stay on them on my own.  I think that its because I know I have to weigh in & get my bodyfat checked, that I lose weight and bodyfat.  Basically its:

  • Breakfast: 2oz cereal (ie porridge), 1 egg (or 2oz protein instead of egg)
  • Mid-Morning Snack: Plain yoghurt or fruit or 2 slices of Ryvita / high fibre cracker bread
  • Lunch: 3oz protein, lots of veg
  • Mid-Afternoon Snack: Plain yoghurt or fruit or 2 slices of Ryvita / high fibre cracker bread
  • Dinner: 3oz protein, lots of veg, 1 potato (size of your fist) or 1oz brown rice
You are also allowed a snack of 200cal per day and allowed a sauce of 100cal per day.
Corrected that  shouldve said groceries usually DONT set her off.  She may have PMDD and as well as carries resentment.  Shes actually a less angry version though of herself from the last few years so I wonder how much age factors into it as well.

Sounds like a tight but healthy plan plus good focus with fitness and nutrition.  I know about the motivational thing.  Im a mess without accountability so this forum and particularly this thread are extremely important.

Identifying what personally works for me has been important.  My things are:

  • habit - having a simple eating pattern
  • distraction - keeping away from temptation
  • schedule - longterm planned out weight loss
I can see others being bored with repetative meals, thing avoiding certain foods impractical and/or a schedule hard to keep up with but they work for me.  I can also see modifying these for maintenance.
Hey Everyone!

Its been a long few days! I went away with my family this weekend and it  was ruff. I have a big Italian famly who eats ALOT!. It was slightly hard to stay away from the potato salads and macaroni salad at the bbq but i got throught it...the hard part was going to the board walk....everything to eat there was VERY unhealthy.... my whole family stoped to get ice cream and fried oreos and I just stood there and pouted like a big baby lol kind of silly of me... i did cheat a little i had a few licks of my cousins ice cream cone and a brownie bite...i guess its not that bad. Yesterday we had Sunday dinner and me and my boyfriend had Cantanelli beans rather then the pasta, I found it was a GREAT substitue for macaroni...the beans kind of have the same texture as pasta... you guys should try it! I also made flax seed pancakes that are phase one friendly...they were pretty ok. I got home last night and I finally broke 150...yaya 149! Today is my first day of phase 2....i havent ate my carb yet... hmm what to eat

well I hope everyone is having a great labor day weekend!

Hi Everyone! I've been lurking here for the past few months and have finally decided to kick my butt in gear. I'm 5'7 and 264lbs. I started the diet today and it seems to be going ok. I'm not really suffering any side effects but we'll see after tomorrow. My goal is to go down to 140-150. I was wondering if any of you have any tips on what to bring for luches to work on Phase 1? I want something that is easy and can be prepared the night before so I don't have to fumble around in the kitchen at 5am when I get up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Well today turned around and for me & Kiki.  Also her boyfriend returned in time to catch a lizard in my house.  Im insanely phobic of them and you cant get away from them in TX.  This was his 3rd rescue this summer.  If this sounds silly, you dont know phobias.  Course if a frog gets in and lost in here, would have to sell the house!

Speaking of frogs, theres a FROG in the thread.  Welcome CanadianTree - hope you dont mind me dropping off the amphibian.  In addition to suggestion from others, SB makes 3 great phase 1 TV dinners ($2.50 walmart).

  • Pork w/ pecans & greenbeans
  • Caprese chicken w/ brocolli & cauliflower
  • Beef w/ cheesy brocolli (my fav)
Jenna, I know those beans - my mom used them to make pasta fazool (sp?) and they are good!  I bet we could talk some serious authentic Italian carbalicious food.  Congrats too- boardwalks are up there with state fairs with their tempting foods!  TX state fair is weeks away and Im still thinking about Sarah's turkey leg! I do think Sarah you easily walked it off though and more.  Turkey leg, funnel cake, more funnel cake ...
BTW canadiantree, Im sure you'll hear from some who are in or recently finished phase 1- been 2 months for me but it was a nice jump moving some weight before the main diet starts.

spookums, azndude and canadiantree - glad to have you and welcome to southbeach!  Hope to hear how its treating you -
Hey Sun,

Thats the basic plan.  You have to do out a questionnaire go get your metabolism score.  The lower the score, the more work that you need to do to correct it.

You get a different plan each week.  Some weeks are extremely high in protein  (I mean like 4oz for lunch & 5 oz for dinner - and thats not counting breakfast!) and some are just normal - like above.  There are also some detox days - water only or veg only days.  Not really into them.

I'm due to go in a fill out the questionnaire this week, so I'll let you know how I got on!!

hi all....

am completely exhausted for the past few days... i did peep in but had no energy to think about what to write... have no idea what i'm doing or what i'm eating even... and aadi's teething!!! what a timing!!!

i'm teaching management at a local interior design and architecture institute..... i never thought teaching was so tiring....

Smile

Hey Shruti,

i love the garfield pic - its so true!!
Just a quick HEY! Busy day gettin' kids back to school and all!
150 again this morning and I am okay with that! The drop is coming soon I hope!
Hope you are all well!
I still can't get over how busy this thread has gotten!
Hey guys Im back...Look what happens when Im gone for a couple of days......Im still the same weight but very pleased...172 was a total 30 lb loss for me  almost half way there  HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY...Jayne I stayed as far away from those funnel cakes as I could...they smelled great though...  Im going to shout out a BIG HELLO to every one thats new..Im SARAH by the way  Im sure Ill get to know you all eventually..Kids are back in school and its really quiet around here.  time to relax and kick back...and not eat a thing HAHA!!!
Finally got me some pre-grilled sliced chicken, 4 packs this time.  Big old salad with chicken for dinner.  I still cant say it as chicken salad w/o picturing cubed chicken in mayonaise.

Gina, that sounds great that they personalize the plan to the person.  I wouldnt be into that detox either - water all day would make me collapse.

Shruti, dont forget the sari photos.  Love the new Aadi shot with the big brown eyes.  Hope your hubby is recovering finally from his fever!

I thought my day was busy and I peeked in and saw you Carrie and Sarah zooming through here.  Things are crazy here today too.  What is it with the busy day following the holiday.  Geeez.
