Anyone doing or have already done this program? I am on day 4 of phase 1 and very pleased with the results!

Hi there!

I've been reading up on South Beach and am all set to start on Monday (and convinced both parents to do it with me so we can all support each other).  I'll be checking back to get tips-I'm mostly doing it to stop my sugar cravings.  I don't really need to lose any weight (I'm recovering from anorexia) but I have insatiable sugar cravings for all that good gummy candy, and I eat that stuff way too often and then dont eat regular healthy real food, so I'm going to do Phase 1 for 2 weeks to try to balance that out.  So, everyone notices sugar cravings go down?  Thanks!
VERY MUCH SO!! But you will likely lose weight. Is that a good idea for you? There are other cool plans to break sugar addiction! Try the book "Sugar Busters". Good luck to you! Stay on here with us!
Carie - what benefit would there be for me to go back and do phase 1 for two weeks if I'm already following a program much like phase 2. Would there be any benefit to that?
humorpam...totally losing any sugar addiction and a quick jump weight loss! 8-13 lbs in 2 weeks!

I am 152 this morning! Down from 157 in 6 days!!!
ladyashleigh, glad to have you and your folks aboard.   Some find initially the lack of carbs to be a challenge so it you do, know that it not only gets better but I find my appetite controlled because of it.  Props to Carrie for getting some SB attention!

5 lbs in 5 days sounds like one of those fake promotions for unhealthy diets but this is all healthy so its all good.  Way to go Carrie!

Yeah sun, I am guessing that 2 or so pounds was likely water retention, so am assuming this next week will only be a 2 or 3 pound loss! 3 would be great and would put me in the "140's"!!!! (I think I just heard skinny angels singing just from the thought of it!!!)  And thank you, I am excited to have gotten such a great thread going! So far everyone is awesome! Glad we can help eachother out!!!!
Hope everyones weekend is great! Especially Sarah!!!! Are you done missin' him yet or what! ;)
Just for fun...check out the "Dear Platau..." thread. It is here under Weight Loss! It's too funny and VERY theraputic!!!
Hi everybody hope your weekend went good Mine was wonderful.  A cool thing happened today.  I am now in the 170's  Im not have any problem losing in phase 2.  Took me a while to catch up on everything. I think writing everything down on this site makes the carb control easier to manage.  Not to mention all the support.  You guys are great.  Carie did you try that cabbage stuff.  Did ya gross out or like it. And thanks for wishing me a great weekend
Hey everyone,

This is a diet that I really want to try, but my problem is the breakfast in Phase 1.  What do you actually eat for it??

Any and all advise greatly appreciated!!
ladyashleigh, I used to have an ED in high school Awsome that you beat it and just want to be healthy.  My ED messed up my metabolism and made my hair fall out.  South beach is really a healthy way to live and a good balance of carbs fats and proteins.  Not to mention good for your arteries.  If you like gummie things I would try dried mangos.  THey taste a lot like gummie bears.  They are high in sugar so eat them(in moderation)before bed.  Your sugar will spike while your sleeping so wont lead to sugar cravings all day.  Dried fruit as become my favorite candy.  Of course after phase 1.  I still like my sweet every now and then.  at least its a health sweet.
Entersandlady EGGS EGGS and more EGGS just for the first two weeks though.  You can mix them w/ veges and low fat cheese's low fat meat too......My book is 3-4yrs old if anyone has the revised version there might be more to it than that though  Try the cook book I LOVE mine
Hey getfit girl,

I have 2 problems with eggs

  1. I hate the yolk, so I only like egg whites
  2.  when I eat too many i come out in hives.
Dont get me wrong, I really do like eggs (well the whites of them anyways), but I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas??  Or at least give me something to do other than an omelette or scrambled egg!!
You could saute' some veges and cheese and wrap it in thin lunch meat kind of like a breadless burrito.  Or use a lettuce leaf for a hot roll up
Well my official Day 7, Phase 1 weigh in is 152. That is a 5 pound loss so far! I am hoping for 3 more next week! Entersandlady..have you tried "eggbeaters"?
Sarah, glad your weekend was great and congrats on the weight loss!!!!
Hi missed ya over the weekend.BTW my hubby said I looked great even after i started nagging about how many cals and bad stuff were in the mc donalds choc shake he was drinking.  Think I was a little jealous.  Sounds like your happy the way things are going.  Im very glad!!!!!
Quick question:

Are chickpeas allowed in phase 1?? Also is Garlic allowed?
YES!!!!
Woohoo!!

Thanx getfit girl!!
Hey Sun how you doing today??  How about you wannabehot??  I dont want to forget anyone  This is Awsome support.  We all ROCK!!!
Here's hoping Ladyashleigh first day is going well!

GetFit - You had me going with the hubby, thought you were about to say you were telling him how many calories were in the choc shake YOU were drinking LOL. Props to all who can be supportive of us, even during our "diet moments".

Entersandlady, I wish I preferred whites over yolks - thats the calorie way to go. Im not promoting processed food necessarily but one breakfast thing I'd do is eat either of Oscar Mayers low fat deli meats - turkey, chicken or roastbeef. They come in at 10 calories a slice so its easy to know your calorie consumption - not that SB stresses that, but something I could remain aware of. Another thing is that SB seems to not necessarily go towards conventional high carbs of breakfast so thinking outside things we associate with breakfast particularly will open you to foods from other meals but whatever you feel comfortable eating in the AM. BTW - in phase II when carbs are introduced, you can have SB diet wraps. My fav are the southwestern at 190 calorie and while my daughter will tell you they are absolutely gross, I adore them and they fill me up (also made from whites, not yolks but youd never know it!).

Carrie - 1 week 5 lbs, nice jumpstart on the diet! Thats average for a two week weightloss but done in one week and its out the park.  Onwards to your on second week strong. BTW Im going to have to check out that funny thread!

Did I mention I stated on 6/18 and while not sainthood status yet, Ive been clean other then a little undereating episode. Mid July daughter birthday, restaurant, ate 1/2 Macaroni Grill lite 500 calorie (lite? LOL) dinner with the rest for dinner that night. Planned to follow this yesterday for my birthday knowing I might go off it for this day. And I did, go off it that is. The damages? Shrimp, mushrooms, spinach, PASTA but I did have them bring the sauce on the side. I used a spoon to apply it sparingly which to my surprise I did. I had probably a 2 inch cube of bread and 1 inch cube (1-1/2? LOL) of my birthday cake. I was okay though, thinking just dont fall off the wagon for several months as these events tend to cause me to do. That evening we returned home to play games and we left to drop someone off. On the way back my hunger returned and my thoughts disappointingly went to cookies I knew were in the house. Cookies that havent been a problem for close to two months. When we returned, with my mind on them thinking that tomorrows a new day - my last hurrah - my daughter wanted to talk to me about her boyfriend. We ended up talking for hours! No cookies AND me wondering if there was intervention from the diet gods. Those cookies would have been an extension of my birthday meal but how long would it have actually extended? Decemeber? Ive done that. Today Im back on course and pretty thankful to have a thread to be accountable to.

I believe this is the thread longest post yet but a story to be told :D
