I SO fell off the wagon today! :(

I went on a regular carb frenzy! i just am so disappointed with myself right now! Back on the wagon tomorrow!

Dont feel bad kelley just plug away at it.  Ive been wavering a lot the last 4 days and gained 2 lbs back but today was a better dayfor me.... I left my house and the temptation to scarf food went away.  got lots of exersize playing with and chasing the kids.  I forgot how much I love to swing HAHA.  Im definately getting old though ...too long on the swing makes me dizzy WEIRD HUH  see ya all tommorrow.

Careful with that! That's how I fell off the regiment.

Welcome jelli!  I was here only a few days when happily Carrie opened this SB thread.  My doctor recommended SB and I never thought I could do low on carbs.  Me?!?  SB has been berry good to me though.  Good luck tomorrow.  Funny about the apple pie - I just posted earlier about my obsession with a similar diet dessert you might appreciate phase 2.

This wagon comes round daily Kelly, and we'll always help you back on :D.  Glad that you stuck to your plan Sarah - thats great.  Ive always thought if we got off work at 3pm and played outside til dinner, we wouldnt need diets.  That was back when there wasnt cable and the internet outside, so there was nothing better to do but go play.

Thank you, Sun! I'll do great, I already know it and since my boss suddenly looked so good ... and I have been doing other things - I was re-motivated to go this route once again. LOL on phase II. I never say it, going from Phase I to eating anything.

If anyone wants a fabulous smoothie recipe:

1 cup frozen blueberries, blackberries and raspberries (berries better than any other fruit - as you know due to the low sugar content in berries).

1 scoop jay Robb's egg white protein powder.

about 1/4 cup water or less - depends on how well your blender works, and how loose or tight you like your smoothies.

That's it. Good for breakfast, part of a breakfast, or a snack.

I read someone wrote that they hated the ricotta cheese desserts. H E L L O, NO! I learned to love them. I add 1 capful of almond extract, 1 pkt of sweet 'n low and cinnamon. Amazing - just.

As you can see, I am no stranger to this diet.

Caveat: I really enjoyed reading and learning from Dr. Angstron (sp?) I had a lot of respect for him and in some ways the book and the diet really opened my eyes - this CLEAN low carb diet and with medical thought version of the Atkins principles.

BUT! He really sold out with all those frozen meals and snacks on the shelves with his name on them. Imagine! Him a heart doctor peddling foods with more than 1500 to 2500mg sodium - per, frozen or packaged shelf meals.

Good morning all... Well I reset my account here and lowered my activitey level and my weight now its tell ing me to only eat 1200 cals a day.  Eating the southbeach way with little good carbs and lots of of lean protien and veges makes it easy.  Im getting to be a little concerned that when I start trying to maintaine my weight Im going to gain it all back.  Im sure this has to do with the fact that I was stuck at 172 for two weeks and was only eating 1300 to 1400 cals a day.  Should I start workingout harder to make my deficit higher or what.

jellie Im not big on egg white powder but I suppose that it gives the smoothie some frothy whipped texture.  Im a big fan of the strawberry butter milk Ice I use fatfree buttermilk to make it low fat.  Ive still got that extra 2 lbs on my scale and I just want it to go away so I can start losing again.  Carie I know your having this same problem what are you doing to try to fix it.  Sorry I had to vent a little but Its just so darned frustrating.  Im going to be bald by the time I lose all this weight from the stress.  AHHHHH!!!!
Jelli, Im with you on the ricotta dessert but we're alone on it.  Also Ive an old post here about is the Dr sleeping with devil as he gravitates towards processed food with Kraft (as well as how strongly does Kraft truly enforce his ideals).  I dont have issue with it, mostly was a curiosity.  I do try to balance SB products with unprocessed fresh.

Currently eating a pack of fresh sliced mushrooms and still dont know why I love them so.  Simple but great and practically negative calories.

Good morning all!

SUN! Sleeping with the devil: Kraft foods. - Good one. I don't have too many issues with the whole thing, I was just surprised. But I do hate the notion from many - many who posted on another calorie site - that they felt great about meeting their calorie allowances and had a healthy snack or meal, "I had a South Beach Diet" bar, or .."SBD meal, yum'. Then they would come back to the forums and complain that they were not losing weight. I pointed out to them that they probably were losing weight and that the scale was lying to them - the scale was measuring all the water retention from all the sodium - ALL THE SODIUM!

I learned all about the effects of sodium - not so much salting for taste, but deeper on the preservatives side. I looked at that logically and said to self, I bet if you didn't eat any processed foods, your sodium level - which was over 4000 a day, would drop and you might see some difference on the scale. I got this idea from Dr. Angstrom.

One week later, after lowering my sodium intake by cutting out processed foods, I lost 8-lbs (they lost just covered up by sodium swelling - lol). I reduced the sodium from 4000 to 800. My blood pressure lowered significantly.  These were all things that Dr. Angstrom stressed.

IT WAS ALL GOOD.

So today is day 1 and I am weighing in at a ghastly 191.5! I haven't eaten yet - but about to. I'm going to start with my berries smoothie - frozen berries - egg white power (26g protein) and a small amount of water. I'll be eliminating the usual banana - for SBD.

Cool

I thought phase 1 we could not have any fruit of any kind?? Are you doing a modified phase 1???
Hey jellie do you have a first name?  Im Sarah and I did the whole sb thing 3 or 4 yrs ago and lost 50lbs.  when I first heard of it I weighed 210lbs got to 160 and was happy...Then got pregnant and the whole healthy thing went out the window.  ate donuts almost every day.  I only gained 25lbs but the prob was I never lost the weight after birth and kept eating the same..When I crossed the 200 mark I had to get my butt in gear.  now Im aiming for 135/140 my hubby has never seen me that small.  Its great to have you aboard everyone here is great..I apologize for my occasional pity party  Im at a rough patch now and its really getting to me.  Im thinking it has to do with TOM coming soon.  Thats the bad thing about being female  my hubby never has these problems then again he has no sweet tooth either.  What is your goal weight? DOnt mean to be nosy just curious.  you dont have to say if you dont want to.
Hi angela I dont think fruit is allowed either maybe shes starting on phase 2

Berries are allowed because they have the very low sugar content. Unfortunately, I don't have the books anymore but definitely remember that even in phase I - blue, black, and raspberries were the exception. The ONLY exceptions. NO strawberries, melon or etc.

This is how I remember it  - so I'm hoping it's okay. If anyone has the book - would you please look it up?

Thanks.

maybe i have the book....... i'll look, but i moved and i think i gave it away. drat!!

Hummm no word on the berries ... so I'm going to do without the berries today  Cry. I'm chomping at the bit for breakfast and it's already almost 11:00.

Has anyone tried the grilled Canadian bacon rounds w melted low fat Swiss on top? Yum on those - Note to self ... buy Canadian bacon rounds ...

me thinks i should go to the library and check out this book. I bet it's been updated since 2004?? Ya think ?

My book says no fruit for two weeks  mine is the older addition wich also says no dairy except for cheese in phase 1.  Some of the other girls have the new book.... the site that sun123 recomended is a good place to start...
Here is what I have as far as the fruit: FRUIT Avoid ALL fruits and fruit juices in Phase 1, including: Apples Apricots Berries Cantaloupe Grapefruit Peaches Pears

Thanks, ladies. I did two things today!

 1. I did without the berries smoothie - just in case

2. went to the local library and checked out the book. I have it to the 8th.

right now - first meal of the day - 2:00 pm - 3oz cubed chicken breast which was grilled yesterday - no marinade. Eating the cubes and put cut up a slice of Jarlsberg lite Swiss - squeezed lime over it.

Delicious!

Once I finish lunch, I'll do a cursory read over phase I legal foods - and then off to the store.

btw - said lunch was 69% protein, 31% fat. ZERO carbs. Count 'em - Z E R O. Cool
jellie, why was your first meal of the day at 2pm? Is that the norm for you? Just being nosey is all!
The cookbook says no fruit, although its good to find updates.  I remember reading how he added 1/2 a banana when originally it wasnt allowed. phase 2.

Safe to say we all have found our own way to follow SB, whether its to the T or with personal modification. I personally dont have issues or reactions to salt but my sisterinlaw is seriously affected by it with weightloss.  Not that I completely disregard it - I used to salt my string cheese strips but quit and it works for me.  Know I get salt in the dinners but its natural that we set our own parameters.

Getting that book will be handeeee! Finished up my breakfast wraps.  Going to force myself to venture out of my daily food,  see what else to consider.
See, I told you our founder Carrie hadnt abandoned us!
