South Beach Diet - any one had success?

Quote  |  Reply

I was watching the Diet Doctor on FitTv last night and there was some good information on The South Beach diet. I have tried it in the past but was never able to stick with it. If you think about it is a very healthy approach to eating. I just addicted to sandwiches and food that is inexpensive and easy to make = carbs. I lost 16# in 4 months but now I just seem to not get the scale to move so I thought that this approach might help. Can anyone tel me if they have been successful on it or advice?

Thanks!

well from what Ive heard its always hard to get used to it but when yo do succeed you get rid of cravings, which is the best thing ever. I know of people who've tried it and have maintained a very steady weight during the last phase for as long as 3 years...ofcourse making sure to stay active as well :)

there's this group on yahoo that has tons of people on the diet and startign the diet. you should search for it, maybe you'll find the support and help you need there, since its filled with experienced south beach dieter's :) I myself joined the group, but just out of interest (havent tried it, im just on a low gi).

here's the link to the group

I cannot do stage one b/c i eat mostly veggies and fruits but i was able to lose weight quite ok on stage two. that was b4 i decided to turn vegetarian...i find it hard now to stick to low(ish) carbs levels. i know there are vegetarian menus but i don't want to pay for losing my last 10 lbs lol i lost 40 lbs wt/out paying a thing :))

bottom line? if you can last 2 weeks wt/out fruits, like eggs and meat, you can have a lot of success on it.

Thanks so much for the help! I am going to check that yahoo out! I am so excited to check it out.

great! only thing is u have to resgister and they have to accept your registration so not just anyone gets in...but i think itd be very difficult for them to not accept you right away :) once again good luck!

I am on south beach phase 1 right now.  I am in day four and I will say that I feel really wonderful.  The first day was pretty bad...I felt tired all day but now my body is getting used to it.  Breakfast is the hardest because I don't really get up early enough for it, but I have figured out things I can bring with me (like cucumbers and hummus).

My first weigh in is on Friday, so I will have news about how much weight I have lost by then.  But I am hardly ever hungry and the sugarfree fudgsicles and popsicles are a really great sweet to have to reduce the cravings.

I really miss bread, ( I am a bread-aholic) but I just keep telling myself it is only 2 weeks and then I can have bread again in one of my meals.  =)

Nonetheless, now I have more energy.  I am using my work breaks to go on walks and I am feeling pretty good about it.

For the sake of stats, when I started this diet I was at 148 and my goal is to get to 125 or so.  I can let you know about the weight loss after Friday.

Good luck! I recommend it.

Edit***  After the first week which ended today officially (sept. 26th) I have lost 8 lbs.  =)

ozma: are you still on the SBD, and if so, what is your current weight today? : )

I tell everyone that the SB Diet is amazing. Last June (2007) my mom quit her job, after she quit she decided she wanted to change her lifestyle and get healty and in shape. My mom does not like scales and hasn't known her weight in years, so all her weight lost is in clothing sizes. She started out at wearing a size 22-24. By that fall she was in a size 14-16. By Xmas 2007 she was wearing a size 10-12 and some brands size 8. I had never seen my mom not fat before it was crazy how fast she lost the weight. She stuck to the first two weeks of phase one (and I did phase one with her but I gained back the 10lbs I lost doing it) and did a few months of phase two. She never did phase three, she went back to her usual foods and just portion controls what she eats. After she was down to a size 16 is when she started to exercise because she felt comfortable in her skin and now she does yoga twice a week and walks a the tredmill 2-3times a week. I have seen the SB Diet work and keep weight off for over a year on someone, I think it is a good fad diet!

Congratulations Ozmagirl! I am trying it! I recently gained 7# in 11 days! Darn diet vacation!

Keep us posted!!

I just started on phase 2 this past weekend.  I have lost about 10lbs so far after phase 1.  My next weigh in will be this Friday so I am hoping for a 1-2lb drop.

Starting phase 2 has been difficult as I am worried about eating carbs again and it has created a lot of bloating which gives  me a feeling of heaviness.  Plus it makes me look terrible! lol

I assume that this will be temporary as my body adjusts, but man it really sucks right now.  =)  Either way I am happy with the losses and am enjoying my meals thus far.

Congratulations! I am friends with "so in love" and she told me how successful you have been. I am so excited for you! Luckily my weight gain was not real - I am excited to see the numbers tomorrow!

lost one more lb this week.

Dropped from 138.6 to 137.4

Yay!
