I've been a lacto-ovo veg for a few years now, moving closer to vegan all the time. I think I'm ready to "try" soy milk again; the first few experiences weren't pleasant, but I can't go without my cereal in the mornings.
What, in your experience, is the best-tasting brand & flavor of soy milk? Silk vanilla is the only one I've had.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, both my omni boyfriend and my vegan self use Silk Plain Light on our cereal every morning. We like it's lighter soy flavor and that it's not so thick as regular soy milk.
We prefer Westsoy Vanilla Light because it's got great flavor and is lower in calories and less heavy than the regular. We switched away from Silk because it's owned by the White Wave label and we don't support their politics, environmental and labor practices. Good luck!
i'm starting the transition to soy milk with light chocolate soy milk and unsweetened almond breeze. i've found i even enjoy the light chocolate soy milk on my mixture of kashi golean & fiber one! it's decadent! i use silk, but if whitewave has bad business practices as mentioned earlier i'll be looking to switch brands.
If you find that your cereal tastes rather odd with the soy milk, then ease into it. Put a half splash of regular milk on and a half soy. Thats how I started out. Finally it was all soy and I was used to it.
I also use the vanilla stuff on my cereal. Actually thats the only way I consume soy milk. Another thing I found helped is a complete cereal change. Shake up the pattern completely. If you are used to cheerios tasting a certain way, then you have an expectation. But if you hardly ever eat Bran flakes, why not restart eating them along with the soy?
just examples. Good luck ~ Lost Artist

Vitasoy is great, i've like all of their varieties that i've tried so far. At school I get Silk since they usually sell it on campus.
I like Light Vanilla Silk, it goes great with cereal in my opinion...I also love the Chocolate Silk when you just need someting chocolately! For something different I occasionally will buy Rice Dream :)
Not a vegetarian, but I've been using Chocolate Silk in the morning in a protein shake. I really like it :)
I like the Publix brand (store brand) of soy milk, particularly the vanilla. However, for my cereal, I prefer rice milk (usually vanilla too). It's sweeter, and doesn't taste quite as nutty/earthy. Rice milk also makes for great smoothies - frozen fruit blended with enough rice milk to make it wet is very tasty.
Like HK, I'm not a veggie, but I always use soy milk over cow's milk, because I am somewhat lactose intolerant. I like Westsoy Plain Unsweetened for cereal. The taste is not intrusive. I don't see much of a difference from it & cow's milk. I'm not a milk drinker normally, so I don't know how it would be straight out of a cup, but for cereal, I think it's awesome.
IMO soy milk has come a long way in the past few years. I like Silk plain (I find the vanilla milks too sweet) and also Soy Dream (I think I like the latter better but they don't carry it at our Whole Foods). If you haven't had soy milk in a few years... I used to find it had a very strong taste and sometime a weird texture, but newer formulas are light, mild, with a skim-milk-like feel.
Be aware that regular soy milk has about the same amt of protein as cow's milk, but low fat soy milk will have a bit less protein.

Soy Slender is delicious and low in calories..... 60-70 calories for 8 oz. It comes in either chocolate, cappucino or vanilla. Another good low-calorie option is Unsweetened Almond Breeze which has like 40-45 calories..... I recommend sweetening the chocolate or vanilla Almond Breeze with a packet of splenda.
My absolute favorite soymilk is SO NICE UNSWEETENED! It's really good and only 70 calories per cup.
my entire family drinks soy because of me. We have chocolate soymilk and vanilla or plain at ALL times. Cereal is infinitley better with vanilla and chocolate spruces up anything from hot chocolate to milkshakes. I reccomend 8th continent light or almond breeze (which isn't soy but along the same lines).
I use 8th Continent light. It only has 50 calories a cup. The only drawback is that I only use it for my cereal and oatmeal so that by the time I should throw it out, I always have a little bit left since the bottle is so big.
However, I bought this organic, low sugar apples and cinnamon oatmeal from Wild Oats that didn't have any artificial sweeteners and only soymilk could make it not taste so horrible. Water and even regular milk couldn't improve the taste.

I use 8th Continent regular chocolate soy milk. It tastes about as close to real chocolate milk as it gets.
Ditto- 8th Continent is very good chocolate milk. I like the light vanilla also. great on cereal.
The Silk line is best IMO
8th Continent isn't vegan. It's also not a natural soymilk, so if you're doing the soy thing for health, it's not your best bet (they add artificial flavors in there). Ditto for Soy Slender.
I like Silk. Non GMO soybeans and I can actually pronounce everything on the label. I started drinking Silk with the "very vanilla" (made for kids) because it tastes like a vanilla milkshake (I was scared of soy at first!) but it's horrible in calories (and sugar probably) so I started drinking regular vanilla. When I started wanting to lose weight again, I weaned myself onto the light vanilla. Now the light tastes really good and when I have to buy the regular (a lot of times the store is out of it for some reason) it tastes too creamy for me. I actually like the light best.
Rice Dream is also very good as a milk and soy alternative.

8th Continent has lanolin, so effectively, its not even vegetarian.
Trader Joe's unsweetened organic soy milk! It's 70 calories per cup and tastes light and delicate. Love it!
