Soy Protein Shakes?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm thinking about adding protein shakes to my diet but I don't know where to start. I've heard good things about soy protein: helps you burn more calories, helps you store less fat, etc but who knows what to believe. I'm not planning on using this as a way to body build nor do I want to use it as a meal replacement. Ideally I'd want to drink it either in the morning along with a regular breakfast as a way to even more so jump start my metabolism (assuming these shakes can even do that!) and keep me full until lunch, OR I'd want it as a mid-afternoon snack that'll keep me satisfied until I finish my post work workout and make it home for dinner.

any suggestions on good brands? any facts on why it's good to drink protein shakes? once I know how exactly protein shakes help my body I can figure out when it's best to drink it!

Hi there! I just started trying the Aria Women's Protein in chocolate- I put it in the blender w/a little skim milk, lots of ice and some sliced strawberries...it was awesome! In 2 scoops, there are only 80 calories and I think 15g protein. I bought it at my local Kroger.

I saw Aria at Trader Joe's and was considering looking at it, but I had just bought a huge tub of 100% Whey Protein from GNC. Now that I've read their website I might have to check it out, since I'm having some digestion problems (see my thread in the Foods Forum) with the 100% whey, but I was wary of taking something that was only soy protein, and Aria is both whey and soy, so it might be better.

RE why to drink protein shakes -- I think that Aria info site has a good breakdown of why. However, if you're not a vegetarian and eat meat regularly, you should probably only drink a shake before and/or after a workout.  Doing this will help you suppress hunger during a workout and help with building lean muscle mass.

Thanks!

Aria sounds like exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for the recommendation. I agree that the best time to drink it is a little before a workout, give me that extra boost I need!
