Spaghetti squash?
One of my future assignments for my botany class is to make a dish where one of the main ingredients is a plant product. I've heard that one can use spaghetti squash like real spaghetti, and thought that would be a good idea for my class as not many people are likely to think of that. I've never actually tried it though, and was wondering if anyone had ever had this before and thought it was good.
it's amazing and there are lots of yummy ways to make it.
my favorite way to eat spaghetti squash is with shrimp, olive oil, an garlic.
That sounds good, like a shrimp scampi.
I think they should be in season pretty soon, if they aren't already, so I'll have to do some experimenting.
I love it, I cut mine in half and put cut side in baking dish with water and bake for 30 mins. take out with fork to make it like speggetti put ricotta cheese in with it mix put back in shell , sprinkle with parmarsan cheese and bake again 10 min.
After cutting mine in half (not an easy thing to do, by the way), I seasoned with garlic and pepper and a little olive oil (on the inside) and then roasted it for 45 mins at 350 -- left it in the oven to cool. After taking it out, I scrapped out the "spaghetti" and tossed it with regular spaghetti sauce -- altho not really like spaghetti, I can so eat this often, instead of spaghetti
I have never had it but I read about it in a magazine. I asked a coworker and she told me that basically you bake the squash and then use a fork to scrap it to make the "noodles". Eggplant is also pretty good baked, I tried it at a Chinese diner awhile ago.
they're in season from around november to april, so not long to wait. :)
The assignment's due at the end of November, so I should be able to get some fresh ones! Thanks to everyone for the feedback, the ideas you gave sound really good and I'll have to try them.
OMG, I just had my first experience with this cool vegetable the other day. I bought it specifically for a recipe and was so amazed at how it really looks like spaghetti! Anyway, there is an awesome recipe in New Rules of Lifting for Women. It has ground turkey with tomatoes and zucchini over spaghetti squash. It is delicious...(and very healthy!).
Oh I have that book! I'll look at that recipe, try it out.
