Spanx when pregnant?
Hey, does anyone know if it's okay to wear Spanx when you're pregnant? I'm working on the third month here and I'm not ready to share it yet, but you can kind of tell my stomach is bigger because I am very thin. I'm sure it's mostly bloating, but can I wear Spanx? Unforunately I have a pretty small chest, so big shirts don't really help![]()
It is my personal opinion (I am not in the medical field) that it wouldn't hurt to wear them this early in your pregnancy. The only thing I could think of that would be problematic is possible growth restriction in later pregnancy and I'm not even sure that's possible.
I wore a Control It! tank (not quite as constricting as Spanx) until I was ready to start telling everyone around 18 weeks. I hated wearing it and was so uncomfortable. I can't look at the Spanx website at work but I see that they have "Mama Spanx" for pregnant women.
Edited to add: At this point in your pregnancy, your baby is only about 3" long and weighs about an ounce. Your uterus probably isn't even protruding from your abdomen yet. (according to the American Pregnancy Association)
Ehh. My doctor said not to wear anything more constricting than pantyhose. I've got a little bit of a belly, too, and I'm a month behind you. Even though my weight has gone down, my measurements have gone up and I was told it's completely normal and expected. Hell, half of the pregnancy books I've got say to expect your clothes to fit less comfortably at two months. It's the dreaded period of being too small for maternity clothes but too big for your normal clothes. So I'll believe you've got a little bit of a belly at three months.
You may be noticing it more than everyone else, though. :D
me too...I am 7 weeks and can tell my stomach is bigger, bloated and just plain BLAH! I hate the first trimester....
I just went on the Spanx website and there are 3 types available for pregnant women. They seem to cater more towards those who's bellies are showing and need a wee bit of support under the belly and to the low back. In the early stage, I'd wear my regular ones, no real concern. Early in my pregnancy my belly was sort of flabby and baby is so tiny that there's no real concern with tummy constriction, as long as you can still breath. If anything, wear them high up so they don't cut through the middle of your belly. I wouldn't worry - hide the tiny buldge until you are ready to share your joyful news!
I talked to my OB about pantyhose, and he said they are fine. He actually said that I will probably want support hose later on anyway because of swelling. I don't know if Spanx are that much tighter than control top pantyhose, but they both feel about the same--pretty tight!!
