Spark Thy Anger
The same old boring but interesting Topic of "Fuel Prices" YEP I WENT THERE! Where I live in the good 'ol Midwest, the gas price is 3.79 and that is the cheapest. What are the gas prices where you all are from and what can we do to make it cheaper?
EDIT: After reading the news, The TOP 5 OIL COMPANIES COMBINED NETTED 35 BILLION DOLLARS IN THE FIRST QUARTER. The Exxon guy makes 12.5 Million in compensation. What kind of crap is this? Here we the little people get to suffer for their profit.
It's 3.75 here (Texas)
I wish it was $3.79 - where I live (in Canada) it is the equivalent of $5.09.
When you find a solution - let me know.
But - my minor rant is all the news stories that say gas will hit $1.50 per litre (or $5.83) by the summer. I feel like saying "shush - don't be giving those gas gougers any ideas).
cheapest is $3.65/gallon in southside va
I'm in northwest IN near Chicago and its $4.09!
I heard the oil companies are experiencing record profits right now. That really pisses me off! The rich get richer.
Atlantic Canada here and we're paying the equivalant of $5.64 a gallon
Alabama - $3.65/gallon It Blows!!!
South East Wisconsin $3.98...totally blows!
North Western North Carolina (mountains): $3.85-$3.88/gallon; depending on what part of the county you are in.
Mini rant: it should not take $50 to fill the tank on a '92 Honda Accord!!
$3.79 at Chevron this morning here in Huntsville, AL.
$35 to fill the tank of a 1.5L 4-cylinder Mitsubishi Mirage 4-door... Thank God it gets ~30+ MPG.
I filled up for $3.97, 30 bucks, and only HALF a tank.
That's $60 bucks a tank folks. For my lil Honda Accord. Pitiful.
up in alaska we're paying $4.32/gallon. You lucky lower 48-ers and your less-than-$4 gas. I'm getting my license this summer, but I won't have any money to pay for gas, unfortunately. My principal commented the other night about how he filled up his tank the other day and it cost him more than his father paid for his (my principal's) first car. we're all puzzled at why gas costs so much here when the gas comes from here anyway. it's aggravating.
According to some sources the breaking point of the economy (not just the US, the world's economy) is $180 per barrel of crude.
I understand that 1 barrel has 42 gallons of crude oil. Gee, if oil is $136 a barrel, then that's $3.23 just for crude oil The oil companies refine it, and then transport it to the gas pumps. What they aren't allowed to make a profit?? They are making a profit because they're frickin' well run businesses and have been for years. Stop whining about oil company profits and start using less gas. It's all about supply and demand.
It's not as simple as driving less. Food is going up in price partly because of the gas prices. Electric and heating costs have also gone through the roof. Who does this affect the most? Poor people and those on a fixed income. Go ask a senior citizen who is living on a fixed income if they get more per month since the cost of living has gone up. I can tell you their answer. It's no. They aren't getting anymore money.
Should they just stop using so much gas, eletricity, and food?
Don't kid yourselves, Americans. You know we don't. ; )
The oil companies have an oligopoly, and since oil is (for most), a good with inelastic demand, they can essentially set the price as high as they like. The various subsidies and grants they're permitted aren't making it easier on us, either. If we used less gas, all they would do is run to their buddies in the government and lament their losses and be given yet another tax break. Doesn't anyone remember when this happened 2 or 3 years ago?
I use as little gas as I can and the only place I drive is to work. Unfortunately, I commute. So it costs $40 to fill up my little Versa. (And that's here in downtown Raleigh.)
/rant
Petrol is around $Aud 1.40/liter over here, the whole petrol price spike is out of control but all I think about is the end of globalization and how that is going to work, I blame the developing countries now that they are coming in wealth and power all their citizens want cars and petroleum based products and there simply isn't enough for everyone,
I'm in Southeastern Pennsylvania. I paid $3.82 on Monday and now I see from the sign it's $3.89. In April it was $3.30. I'm glad I drive a small car and don't drive many miles. I'll be talking to my mechanic about making sure my car is in tip top shape for fuel efficiency. And I'm curtailing longer trips too.
We could have had cars that run on alternative fuel years ago if not for the opposition of car makers and big oil.
