hey im going to try to start the special k challenge. Any helpful advice. Im DIEING to lose some wight!!!
There were some posts on a similar topic recently. You might find some of the information interestting: http://caloriecount.about.com/special-k-chall enge-ft1075
Honestly, rather then doing the special k diet since whatever I lose comes back when I eat normally (with premeasured/weighed portions) I'd say just do it with portion control and really focusing on watching those logs. I've always been starving on that "diet" and honestly that just lead to me being really cranky and impossible to live with. I got pretty sluggish so I know that the intake just wasn't enough for me.
I guess if you're used to a serious surplus in calories then sure the weight loss might be better then I've seen in my previous attempts. I've really had to be careful at the "normal" meal because I was so hungry that I'd be really tempted to overeat.
I know a lot of people see results, I just wasn't one of them so I stick to doing the whole portion control bit and just see the results I want. Weight going down instead of zig-zags.
the only reason the special k diet might work is because it tells you to eat lower calorie meals with bowls of cereal
you could do this with any other low calorie cereal
this is how the cabbage soup diet, and lemonade diet work too
it just reduces your calories
there is no one type of food that makes you lose weight faster [i mean there are things like fibre and things like that that can aid it]
but it always comes down to eating the right amount of calories for your body
you don't have to eat cereal for a month!
you could lose weight eating mcdonalds everyday if you ate the right amount of it!

+1 !!!
Cereal K diet? what a farce... anything to get you unto their products... from a company funded by two brothers that maintained a sanitarium (Battle Creek) and believed in women circumcision..to curb sexual practices, hurray for healthy cereals!
to quote Mr. Kellogg
" In females, the author [Mr. Kellog] has found the application of pure carbolic acid [phenol] to the clitoris an excellent means of allaying the abnormal excitement. "
What a great cereal!! ... what a farce

So yes, the basis are the same... I fully support thin_girl when she says the secret is in *knowing* what you eat, in respect to calorie values and nutritional breakdown (protein, carbs, fats).
If you take the easy way you'll lose the pound, hey I could make you lose pound by only telling you to eat flax seeds and tuna for a month... but you can't live on that... and when you stop, since you still have no idea what's going on... you'll pile on the weight again. habits changes. Knowledge of nutrion will help you change them. I ain't easy, if it was, everyone would have their dream bodies ; )
for breakfast, try:
original, non-sugared coated steel cut oatmeal? eggs whites some fruits?
hope this helps!!
and special K is not that low in calories when you compare it to other cereals [which are mostly the same]and not filling at all
and be careful to how much cereal you're allowed to have
corn flakes for example are only 100 calories for 1 and 1/4 cup!
read the labels!!
also i had no idea about that weird clitoris stuff kellogs is talking about! crazy! i'm gonna read more aout that
My favorite version of special k is the Special K protein cereal! Its got 100 calories per 3/4 of a cup. I usually have about 2 cups, so around 270 calories, and its loaded with protein and fiber, and is the only special K cereal which actually fills me up. If you are going to do the special K diet, please try that cereal! Its great!
tyrdrop and kaufmkk - special k is crap. try a better cereal like anything kashi has to offer.
it's funny i read the kellogs wiki after... John Harvey Kellogs did some EFFED up S%^T.
and kellogs owns kashi!!
where as the founder of general mills worked hard to free the slaves
so if that makes any difference to you!! GO WITH CHEERIO
Kellogg advocated 2 meals a day and regualar yogurt enemas - WAT!
Although I would prefer to be ethically smart in my food choices, I'd much rather eat Heart Healthy. ![]()
So what are some good whole grain cereals then? I find that when I go to the supermarket, all the cereals have a lot of sugar in it, but I'm not sure how much sugar is normal in cereals.
Lainw, if you are concerned about sugar, there are whole grain cereals that are unsweetened, such as shredded wheat. I have heard people compare the taste to cardboard, but I personally think it is delicious, especially with some good quality soymilk and sliced strawberries. Yum!

I'm sure that's just a joke, but Kelloggs bought Kashi as an already-successful, growing, natural foods business... it didn't start Kashi.
Euh sorry to say, it is all true. The sources all listed on the wiki. He even published a book called "plain facts for old and young" about his "theories" ... naturally it's not the kind of information you're going to see on their company web site... but it's there up on wiki.. and you can look the book up on Amazon!!
I'm not trying to play the conspiracy theory freak, but some people had very unconvential ideas, and I thought people should know what the guy had in mind when he funded his company
Happy to inform!! pple, cereals are candy... even "the good ones" have much, much better alternative. Go whole grain, oatmeal, wheat germ, etc... why don't go directly to the source instead of paying for the same things in a cute package with sugar added? beats me
my two cents ; )
