Do you have hypothyroidism or something? 1200 is very little. If that's you in the picture, you're just going to end up ruining your body. Hehe! You can be a bobble-head! XP

Anywho, I love Special K! Best cereal ever! I wish they weren't so sugary though.. I'm hungry like five minutes after I have a bowl. =P
Yup, I agree - your body was probably just forcing you to eat more because IT IS STARVING!!!

How many threads of yours do people have to respond to telling you that 1200 CALORIES IS TOO LOW FOR YOU?

You already got plenty of tips for avoiding binges-- and STARVATION MODE and MALNUTRITION-- in your other 'OMG I totally binged' post.

Really, it's getting old. You KNOW you're not nourishing yourself properly.

excuse me? i posted maybe one or two threads the entire time i've been on cc, and people have told me 1200 isn't enough .. which i eat 1300 usually, and i AM nourishing myself properly i eat all healthy food and make sure everything's all balanced out. i don't appreciate your attitude? and what exactly is getting old, like i said, i posted 2 threads, one not having anythign to do with calorie intake.

oh and additionally, 1200 is what cc says i should be eating but my BMR is a little above 1300 so i make sure i eat at least 1300 a day but on days where i'm basically just sitting around doing nothing i try to make sure its between 1200-1300.

I think she meant that just people generally not eating enough is getting old.

You sorta... contridicted yourself there. Even still, 1300 isn't enough. Well, unless you have absolutely no muscle mass and sit on your butt all day. If so, eat more and get some exercise! =)

You do seem to post alot about binging.  Binging is your body & mind telling you that its starving and needs more food.  If you eat more calories you won't binge as much because your body won't be screaming & crying out that its slowly dying from starvation.

it's confusing knowing how much i should eat -- i was going by what CC was telling me, so i didn't know otherwise.

i'm pretty active -- i try to go to the gym 3-4x a week, run at home once a week and have 2 off days .. generally anyway.

whatever i do eat, it's usually healthy and i try to balance everything out so i'm getting proper nutrition. how am i supposed to know if i'm supposed to listen to CC/my BMR or what other people are telling me?

Oh, dear! You HAVE to eat more then!  Well, don't HAVE to... but to be healthy and strong, you do.
What are your stats? Your goals? Also, don't eat your BMR. You have to eat /over/ your BMR.

so i guess posting twice about binging = a lot?

you can't base what you're thinking based on two binging posts i've made .. just because i've posted about it twice doesn't mean that i am binging all the time. there's just always those stressful days where all some people want to do is eat, and i think the judgment i'm getting here is kinda unfair.

i've obviously been misled on CC, i've been told on here that my intake should be 1200, but my bmr is a little above 1300. so i've been trying to balance that out but obviously i'm going to have to readjust that.

We can help you if you give us your stats. =)

i'm 106, 5'3 and just looking to maintain and tone up .. and just be healthier in general.

what people don't understand is that i just got over a nasty case of mono for 4 months .. and as many people who have had mono know .. mono = no appetite. luckily i didn't lose much weight while i had mono considering how sick i was .. i lost about 5-6 lbs (3 of which i have gained back)

however .. during the time i had mono, my liver enzymes were highly elevated .. and in turn i somehow ended up with gallbladder problems, and i now have a dysfunctional gallbladder. (it's functioning at 26% -- normal range is 40% and above.) .. everytime i eat, no matter what it is (it used to be just fatty foods, now it's practically anything) i feel extremely sick to my stomach and nauceous. one doctor suggested i get it removed, while 2 others suggested more tests be done. it's very frustrating for people here to be making comments about how much i'm eating without even knowing/asking for the status of my health. like i said, my main concern was to get healthy .. which is sometimes hard when you feel nauceous and experience abdominal pain EVERY TIME you eat.

Though 1200 calories may be "what CC recommends", CC tools recommend 1200 calories as the minimum an adult (NOT growing, a teen needs MORE) needs to survive, for weight loss. You claim that you're "just trying to tone up and be healthy", but what you're really doing is starving yourself, and cheating your growing body out of the nutrition it needs to survive, let alone grow. (If you're a teen; you look quite young in your photo?) This is why you binge, because your body isn't getting what it needs, so it desperately yells at you "Here, have some Special K! Please, I need it!"

Believe me, I'm trying to get my own calorie needs and binging habits under control. I understand that this is confusing, really, it is. I do apologize for my snappy tone, but your posts have all the signs of someone who just wants to be told over and over again that they're not eating enough (really honestly no offense meant). Dieting the way that you are is going to lead you down the path of (1) more binging-- a binging body is a deprived body, more often than not and (2) possibly an eating disorder.

You really just need to eat more hon. You need to eat your BMR at the VERY, VERY LEAST. Your BMR is what your body would essentially burn whilst in a coma. You are quite clearly not in a coma; your body needs more. Especially since you're active. Eating your BMR is usually what people do for weight loss-- since you're active AND you're looking to maintain, you need quite a bit more.

i'm 20 .. and thanks. i just need more direction i guess, i'm not so sure what's what and how much i'm supposed to be eating.

I just put in your stats into five online calculators, and the average came out to you needing at least 1800 calories a day. =) In fact, a couple of them said 2000, but it sounds like you wouldn't be comfortable with that.

Try a calculator like this one for a rough estimate of how many calories you should eat in order to maintain, and also check out the maintenance board for lots of posts and people looking to maintain their weights.

Just be sure to not go under your BMR; I mean, it's okay every once in a while, but it's really not good for your body to make a habit of it, you'll lose weight, and you'll likely end up doing more binging.

EDIT: Didn't see wistful's post when I posted this! Her estimates sound spot on.

Good luck with maintenance! (:

wistfulxthinking & le_tigre -- thank you both! :)
Glad to help! One more thing-- if you experience a bit of weight gain at first; don't panic! Your body's metabolism is probably really slow at the moment because of how little you've been eating. It'll take a bit to speed up again and regulate.
I've been following your threads and reading what you've been saying and what others have been advising you and I think you've been getting some solid advice about increasing your calorie intake.  I wanted to address one thing:

"it's very frustrating for people here to be making comments about how much i'm eating without even knowing/asking for the status of my health. like i said, my main concern was to get healthy .. which is sometimes hard when you feel nauceous and experience abdominal pain EVERY TIME you eat."

I know people here do tend to toss out the same advice across the board and sometimes don't take into consideration the unique characteristics of each individual, but I think this time you've been a bit unfair to those offering advice.  If you have medical conditions that preclude you from eating in a normal way, you need to offer that information up front so people know what you're dealing with and can offer informed advice.  They can't help you if you don't tell them your limitations.

Yeah, crombiexbabe... I noticed that there is much hostility directed towards thin people in general who care about their weight on this forum (like that girl that started the Goal Date topic). I know I'm generalizing, but I think you know what I'm trying to say. Really, even if 1200 calories is too little for you, it's no reason for people to get annoyed - and I really don't think that's the reason. I find it really annoying that thin people are told to eat more just because they are thin. Yes, you are thin, and you are also counting calories because you care about your body - that's good!

I'm very sorry that this has nothing to do with your cereal topic, but I had to say this.
