Spin classes - ? calorie count
New here, hi everyone. Great site.
Does anyone know if 600 cals an hour in an advanced spin class is right? If so I should be very slim indeed....
I check my heart rate and it goes anaerobic once or twice a class, Im 54, my resting heart rate is about 68, and recovery is quite fast. Top heart rate when working very hard is 140.
I do four classes a week on average, sometimes three. I swim at least once a week, but not very good, add some dumbells in the water and do aqua exercise stuff to cool down after the spin class sometimes. I do body pump classes irregularly and power pilates once a week and practice a bit every day. On the days I dont spin I use my treadmill, uphill, 3k an hour, for about 40 mins generally, sometimes holding light weights.
Any suggestions for increased fat burning?

Yup! I have worn my heart rate monitor during spinning classes and I have burned anywhere between 450-750 calories in 50-60 minute classes.
Add in some intervals to your run - super high intensity spurts followed by jogging for a longer period is supposed to help your fat burning throughout the rest of the day.

I think you're doing just great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry to appear ignorant, but what is spinning?I have never heard of it
Thanks all, note for Glad - I wouldnt get one at home, apart from the expense, the class is what is fun.
Hard work, dripping finish, but with most teachers well trained motivating and you work much harder than you can drive yourself. Also the social element is uplifting, the endorphins kick in at about ten minutes in and everyone whoops and encourages each other. I recommend it, especially if you are trying to lift depression, you cant not feel better after a class.

Glad,
I am GLAD you asked. I had no clue what spinning was either :) It's nice to know that I am not completely cluelss, rather....just not exposed to a lot of the fitness world. I don't go to the gym (never had a membership) so much of that world I have never heard of.
I am a work out at home with infomercial DVD's girl :) But, I am learning and trying to branch out. This is the place to do it!
Thanks for the info everyone :)

With my heart rate monitor, I keep my HR in the high aerobic range with anerobic spikes, but according to my monitor, I burn about 500 calories for a 60 min. class. It depends on your weight, too. As my weight has gone down, I burn less.
