I really want to go to a spin class as everyone raves about them. however i dont know anyone personally who goes so i cannot compare my fitness to them.

this is gonna seem a silly question but i just dont want to go and not be able to do it! i think im pretty fit cardio wise, my recent 10km times on treadmill have been about 53 minutes.

How hard is a standard 1 hour long spin class? Will a higher level of fitness than that be expected. Im 20, 5'2, 116lbs female if that helps lol!

Spinning is difficult no doubt.  The instructor can be a big part of it.  The first time I went I took it slow drank ALOT of water and didn't overdue it.  I immediately had results.  After a couple of times I could last for the entire hour and keep up with the instructors......  If it gets to be too much I simply call it quits and I am   outtta there (thats why I grab a bike near the door.)  In short spinning burns many calories quickly and is a great way to break up the monotony of the gym routine.  I think I will go tonight but I gotta remember to bring a towel for all the sweating.

I love spin, 5 mins after each class, during the class, not so much.  It's a hard workout, but it's great if you like your workouts to really burn.  We have both triathletes and out of shape people in my class and everybody pushes as hard as they can.

I found the first class REALLY hard because I had my resistance set too high.  So take it easy the first class (it will still be a great workout), talk to the instructor so that you are set up right and they know you are new, my instructor asks for newbies every class to make sure, and have fun.  You seem pretty fit, so I don't think you have much to worry about.

You can make the class as hard as you want by adjusting the resistance and your speed, so just push yourself as hard as you can, and don't worry about the others in the class.

i was going to the spin class at my gym for a while and it is hard. Fortunantly my gym has easy classes. By easy I mean you still sweat like crazy and you work hard but your not dropping by the end. Our 8 am saturday class is the hard one. I mean the one and only time I went, I came home and passed out, when I woke up I felt like id been at the beach all day, thats how dehydrated I got. Deff drink a bottle and a half before going to the class (obviously 1 hr before) and drink a whole bottle afterwards. Only takes sips during class you dont want the water sloshing in your belly.

I'm sure most of us are not in the right physical fitness to go but we do it anyway, haha!

But seriously, your first class will be the hardest but you should try it.  It's fun and you can always adjust your resistance to make it as challenging or as difficult as you want.

honestly i think you will be fine your running at under a 9 minute mile!

again it depends on the teacher how hard the class is..

its sprinting, jumps (up and down) and tension on the wheel, but ultimately you control how hard you sprint and push....

good luck and have fun.   =)

update us:  did you try the spin class and how did it go?

Spinning is tough, but you go at your own pace.  You can back off or push harder depending on how you are feeling.
