Spiritual Fitness v.s Physical Fitness

Quote  |  Reply
1 Timothy 4:8) For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for ...spiritual fitness brings great benefits for all of time and eternity.
Just a friendly reminder to those who may be obsessing over losing weight. I know I have to be reminded once in a while, too. Keep living healthy lifestyles, stay in shape but don't let it become an unhealthy obsession. Insead, desire a holy obsession.
"God is saying that your fleshy ways must die, so that his ways takeover. Then you will make the right decisions that will enable you to have a healthy and fit body. That will enable you to live a life that is in line with God’s plan for your life. Brothers and sisters
Don’t fall for the big lie that’s being sold to everyone, that the only way for you to attain health and fitness is when some company or product gives it to you. Good health starts with excellent spiritual health. You live from the inside out and not from the outside to the inside." (http://mb.mochacity.com/view_thread.htm?p=896 413)
Just thought I'd post this. God Bless!

haha! I used to tease my dad about this verse all the time.  I use the KJV Bible, and mine says, "That bodily exercise profitteh little..."  I liked to tell him that bodily exercise profitteh nothing..." But of course it didn't say that....I agree.  I think that we should be more concerned with our spiritual lives than our bodies, because I'll body will eventually be destroyed, but our spirits will not.  Another verse that is important is the one in I Corinthinians 6:19, which says that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Ghost.  My dad likes to say, that I'm not taking care of my temple by not being healthy, and that we wouldn't take care of the temple the way that some people take care of our bodies, so we really need to check that.  I know that Paul was talking about sexual sins in that verse, and how we shouldn't do unclean things with our bodies as far as sexual sins go, but I think dieting and how we are taking care of our bodies can also be associated with that verse....

Just thought I would comment....

First, I want to say welcome to CC to vintage.  I see you just joined today.  I've been here since May... hardly makes me an expert, but...

Anyway, my comment on your post... I've recently been studying what the Bible says is healthy (for our bodies).  Actually, I just (re)read the book "What the Bible Says About Healthy Living."  I find the more I get to know the Lord the more I see how He has a devine plan for our lives.  God is more concerned about my inner being, what's happening in my heart, than in my flesh, but the more I concern myself with my heart and soul, the more I concern myself with my health.  By no means, though do I judge another persons heart by what's going on on the outside.

God's Word is filled with truth for every aspect of our lives.  Ah, but it seems you know that.
I agree with you 100% tracker! I'm also doing the same in my life, and I also have found that the more that I become concerned with whats on the inside, God is also telling me that I need to work on how I take care of the inside.  I've been especially reading Romans Chapter 8, and it talks about the carnal and the spiritual.  So I agree with you 100%.  The Lord is definitely concerned about both, but more concerned with the spiritual and the heart.  I think He made it that way so that we can be convicted in our  hearts to also eat and life healthy.
Interesting posts everyone, I didn't need god to tell me to be taking care of my inner self I think if one lives life with open eyes, observes and looks into oneself rather than rushing through one's existence then that kind of enlightenment comes one way or another be it through the bible, religion, god, self-reflection or whatever else.

The bottom line is that physical well-being has a lot to do with emotional/spiritual well-being, the two are strongly connected.
Thank you everyone for your comments! I really do believe that God has devine purposes for us and we shouldn't sit on our butt's and expect things to come with us. What I have learned that "working out", eating right.. takes a great amount of discipline just like spending time with God. It's taught me in my relationship with God if I want to be "fit" in essence and grow in strength and in wisdom, I need to put a little effort into it. Same with being healthy. I'm finding it to be very hard to stay CONSISTANT!! And that's the key, not only to be active and get results, but to better grow closer into the intimate relationship with my personal savior, Jesus Christ.
Im totally with you! The gods are there for us!

Not a day goes by that i dont sacrifice an animal to Hygieia and Asclepius to keep me healthy. I really hope you guys are doing the same.... praying is "ok", but sacrifices are really the best for getting the gods good favor.

I don't care for it either, but there's no need to be like that.

Please do an internet search for JEPD theory and Q theory and then come back and tell us what you think of religion.
Heh, i know of the JEPD theory and the Q theory... doesnt change anything.

But, my turn! Study history and the development / changes of religion (particularly your own), then come back and tell us what you think.  hehe

Until then, I get to continue the greek religion! (And dont talk bad about them, my gods are much more "hands on" ...and we outnumber yours! hehe)
Knowing of something and knowing it are two totally different things!
Exactly! Generations of people knew the hand of their gods! How could anyone just say thats not real?? Whew, I was worried you didnt think Hygieia and Asclepius were real or something.
Who is Hygieia and Asclepius? I've never heard of them before....I believe in Jesus Christ....
Asclepius is the god of health and medicine...Hygieia is his daughter, the goddess of health.

Oh, i have heard of Jesus...the half god half human? Kind of like Helen, the daughter of Zeus and some mortal (there have been lots and lots of demi gods... apparently the gods like to get busy with mortals). Pfft, Jesus didnt even have amazing beauty like Helen, or super strength like Heracles...you sure he was a demi god?
What are you talking about?  Jesus was not half human half god.  He was God in the flesh.  And Jesus definitely can not be compared with the greek or roman gods.  He wasn't a Greek or Roman god...I didn't know what you are talking about when you say, demi god. And YES, Jesus did have lots of strength, and more than Heracles.   What religion is that?

Lorik behave yourself, everyone is allowed to be as equally correct and incorrect as you. They're even allowed to make posts about it.

Lorik, there is nothing said in the Bible about what Jesus looks like. Beauty or not we dont have a clue and for christians all around the world its not what God looks like, its the beauty that he has done for people, is what they are interested in.

Couldn't have said it better myself...
