statsokovich, speaking of lead, and because your name reminds me of one classical composer, I will mention another: Beethoven. His physical ailments, including his deafness and eventual death, were caused, so recent analysis on a lock of his hair showed, by lead poisoning, probably from cookware and dishes.
athena, I was just listening to the composer my name reminds you of :)
I've heard that about Beethoven, although this might be one case where I'm grateful for lead poisoning. The inner struggles caused by his physical and mentail ailments were definitely key in his musical development. If I ever get to Austria, the Zentralfriedhof will be the first place I visit to pay respects.

Thanks for saying that, Athena. It drives me nuts when people think "all natural"="good for you". Ergh.
You're welcome, husseyal.
statsokovich, might I ask what specifically you were listening to? I have a good bit of DSCH, but cannot say I really know his music. Beethoven, on the other hand... :-)
I must regret the lead poisoning, as I am of the opinion that his music would be great despite his ailments, and it is likely that had he had more time, its development would have gone even further. Imagine what might have come from his pen after the Grosse Fugue and the sublime Op. 111! Rather, imagine if you can, for I cannot, but still, I lament the impossibility of hearing it!

I was jamming to his 8th and 10th string quartets. I'm pretty sure I was driving the neighbors nuts, since it's not exactly easy listening :P
As far as LvB, I still think his deafness was necessary for his creative vision to mature to the point it did, but I agree with you that his late works sure make me wish he had lived longer. There's also a long list of artists I'd wish would have died sooner, but we can't get what we want sometimes :D

Who was playing? I have the Melodiya set with the Borodin Quartet and a couple of single discs (with Manhattan and... oh, Eder, perhaps? The latter on Naxos).
And if your neighbors are anything like mine, they deserve to be driven nuts with decent music! The only music I hear from my neighbors -- not all of them, thankfully! -- is booming bass, and I do mean BOOMING. Makes me wish for a bass-seeking missile! (I have desired same in some choral concerts as well, I must admit!)
Maybe another thread is in order, as I would like to know who it is that you wish had died sooner! (Oh, that's so harsh!) Perhaps you would post a reply in The Lounge?

Yes, Splenda is bad for you, I believe I read somewhere that it can be as bad as aspartame. Go for 'Stevia' instead.
I have tried both splenda and equal... I stuck with equal... Like it better. For baking i used splenda.
Doesn't long time use have any affect?? I use equal everyday... twice a day sometimes. A doctor had told my mother not to use artifical sweetners, just to use 1/2 a tspn of regular sugar.

A quick search on Pub-Med reveals that while Aspartame and Sucralose can be migraine triggers in certain people, there is no evidence to support that they are carcinogenic, nor are they associated with any long-term problems.
Aspartame does trigger migraines for me, so I just don't use it. Splenda works well for me.
I always try to head to the raw source of information on this stuff. Too many people have axes to grind, and most of the anti-artificial sweetner websites seem to have a tenuous grasp of science, at best.
On the other hand... I also view with a jaundiced eye any press arising from the manufacturer. Axes galore there.
Pub-Med is a great resource for those who have some training in writing and reading scientific papers.

I love Beethoven myself. Bach is the best! You guys crack me up! I love this!!! I did try the Stevia and got pretty bad headaches! So...16 cals for one teaspoon raw sugar isn't bad!
