So these past few weeks, I have been having crazy sugar/fatty binges. Even though I had already eaten a filling meal, at lunch AND at dinner, I would crave some fries, mozzarella sticks, frozen yogurt, cookies, pies, cereal, etc. I never had these cravings before and I couldn't understand why I wanted to eat all these things all of a sudden. Then I thought about it... Every morning, I add at least two packets of Splenda to my coffee. I looked around online and found a forum where people share their experiences with Splenda and there were other people who went through the same thing! I can't believe it. My friends also went through like 3 packs of Diet Cheerwine one weekend and they were giggling for no reason sometimes. I have heard that people got cancer from it too... No more Splenda for me. Just thought I'd share.

My mother gets horrid headaches if she has any artificial sweetner, I do not, I keep sugar around for when my mom visits and I use the pink stuff. But since I only use it a couple times a week I dont think it really has any effect. I could use sugar since I use so little sweetner on a regular basis, but I actually prefer the pink stuff....weird huh? I have read the articles that have stated exactly how many pounds of the stuff in one year would be the equivalent to what these poor mice were fed, but I cant even imagine even eating more than a few ounces of the stuff a year (it's pretty light weight ya know?). I think the paper may weigh more than the aspartme that is inside the packet!!

I was having NASTY headaches and I could not figure out why.  I had been to several doctors and none of them could tell me what was going on.  A friend of mine sent me this article which I then took to my Doctor and asked could this be the reason.  They did some testing and found that it was in fact the problem.......  If it is marked DIET and it doesn't say splenda on the label it contains aspartame.  Sweet n Low, Equal, Nutrasweet all contain it.

Aspartame does the same to me.  Very bad stuff.

I don't like raw tomatoes.  Really, the texture is very offputting to me.  The very thought of putting on in my mouth gives me shivers.

Therefore, raw tomatoes are evil, and no one should ever eat them.

Splenda is fine though.  I drink about 2 liters of iced tea a day, and use about 1/2 cup of splenda to sweeten it.  I've done this for about two or three years now, with no problems or plans on changing.

Maybe someone can post the references which published the results of these supposed studies into sucralose and cancer suggesting a link (I am not talking about internet website but the real publications). I looked myself in the scientific literature and see NOTHING but refutes.

A couple of medical libraries list articles with the publications listed. Most of the articles I found were discussing the link between aspartame and headaches/migraines. The only one I found regarding cancer was the infamous mice study.

A couple of places that list the Researchers involved as well as their references.

The EHP, or the Environmental Health Perspective has three pages on aspartame related articles. One is the rat cancer study which lists everyone involved http://www.ehponline.org/press/111605.html

The same site also has an article published saying there is not enough research to determine if splenda causes cancer, it also lists all of its references. It can be found at http://www.ehponline.org/docs/2006/9260/lette r.html

They have a search engine for finding more articles and studies.

Bandolier, an independent journal about evidence-based health care, written by Oxford scientists, posted their own study on the link between aspartame and headaches http://www.medicine.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/band13 5/b135-5.html

The National Institute of Health (The NIH) has a database you can search for published articles and studies. http://www.nih.gov/index.html

As for if these publications are true, well I guess anyone could post on a website a study and then list a bunch of references. I don't have the time to go looking up all the references to make sure they are valid, but it is somewhat better than just reading a website that shows no facts or information as to where they got their information.

I still believe there are too many possible ways to get cancer to worry about this one, but I believe the headache one is possible, but everyone is different, wine, cheese, and chocolate also cause some people bad headaches.

Thank you Beckah for the research!  I am not concerened about Cancer.  I know it would take a truck load to cause cancer and personally I don't care for it that much

The only thing bothering me were the gruesome headaches!!!!  Migraines are awful.  Certain things trigger them.  I have had them since I was 7.

Aspartame is the most recent trigger.  Chocolate has been my main trigger pretty much my whole life.  So no Chocolate for me!  Hot dogs or anything cured in sodium nitrate. Bacon, Ham....mostly pork related products.

MSG is another big one for my migraines.  So if you are out there and have NASTY NASTY headaches you may look at the foods you eat.  Your doctor should have a list of known food triggers for migraines!!

I recently did several months of physical therapy for a urinary tract issue and the physical therapist told me to stop all diet soda and diet tea due to the aspartame. I had never considered buying flavored water, but that was what was recommended specifically because it contained Splenda.

I have resumed my aspartame-consuming ways once my box of Splenda packets ran out and have not noticed any difference.

This link corresponds to the advice I received from both the urologist and the physical therapist, except my problem was with urinary frequency with no presence of urinary tract infection. The PT worked even if the aspartame did not seem to play a particular role with my problem.

Medical background here and I agree that so many of these "results" are questionable.  When you find out who pays for them it is often eye opening.

Ladies, let's give everyone the opportunity to choose or not to choose "artificial" sweetners.  I would guarantee that there are studies coming out in droves "proving" that overweight causes more problems than any artificial sweetner.  NOW THERE IS A STUDY I BELIEVE!

Actually you do need extremely limited amounts of arsenic.

SHA-ZAMMMMMMM.

To be honest, I find the fact that you people have a whole post debating my evil-ness, well, i think it's just...sweet.

For real though, the dose makes the poison. During the worst stage of my eating disorder, I ate nothing but splenda. Like, huge, huge amounts. That, along with, well, being anorexic, caused me to develop ketosis.

I still put splenda in coffee, though, and even on cereal sometimes. Do I blame splenda for any of my problems? NO.

On a side note, while writing this post, I accidently ingested a signifigantly sized piece of deoderant. (I dropped my deoderant yesterday and it broke and I didn't clean it up...and somehow it got into my cheerios.) So I think I probably have bigger problems than splenda.

ALUMINUM CHLORIDE=EVIL!!!

Yes, the NIH Pubmed is where I searched for the articles. As I said there are no articles linking SPLENDA/SUCRALOSE to cancer ... this thread was not about aspartame/saccharin originally which was my argument to the OP. And I totally agree with you about the headache thing ... if it makes you feel unwell, don't use "it", whatever "it" is.

I apologize for misreading your post. I read it after reading the several things about aspartame and didn't realize it was going back to the original question of splenda causing cancer. I agree with you there are no studies or articles published anywhere that I can find that state anything linking splenda to cancer. After reading the entire thread at some point it got turned in to something else which I guess is where my confusion came from, you clearly stated sucralose, but my mind must have still been on the aspartame fix. My bad!
