Splenda?
I'm sure people have heard the rumors about Splenda and that it's actually not good for your health... Does anyone know the real deal?
idk the "real deal" but I recently have started to get very sick from artificial sweetners. I started reading about it and have learned that the reason it has no calories is that your body doesn't digest it. However if you have a healthy digestive system and use it often (I was using it a lot in tea, coffee, yogurt) then you will digest more of it and it can make you sick.
Regardless I am not waiting around to find out its bad for you, I don't really want to make my body a splenda science experiment. I have been using Stevia extract instead, its more expensive, but its all natural, its a plant extract. You can find it in health food stores.
Thanks for the tip! I will look for Stevia extract next time I go shopping ::adds to grocery list::. :)
I think plain old sugar gets a bad rap. It's only 16 cal. a teaspoon. That's not much considering how little most people use. I use a teaspoon a day on my cereal.
I personally like splenda but I use all kinds of different sweeteners. (I used to grow stevia plants when I lived in FL)
As far as "No Calorie" That's just not true. I called Splenda yesterday cause I was using 2 cups of the stuff I was mixing it with lots of rhubarb. The no calorie cup for cup stuff and it has 4 cals a packet and 97 cals a cup.
well from what I understand it's not natural, and your body can't digest it or something so it can make you gain weight... I'll google some things up in a little bit.. :)
but I personally don't eat anything with sucralose, or aspartame... ugh.. it's just gross knowing that it's not natural... and it has a funny taste to me... I miss gum, but just thinking of the sucralose and aspartame makes me feel better about it. and besides... I'm pretty sure I inherited my mom's tmj so its probably good I don't eat it regardless :)
