I did use Splenda for a couple of years, but have since refined my diet and no longer use artificial "anything" if I can avoid it.  In my tea I have learned to use less and less sugar until I no longer need any sweetener.  Be a label reader and try to avoid chemicals and preservatives!

Ha ha, you've asked a question that you will get a million different responses to!  There's research on both sides of the fence, though it is heavier on the safe side, and there are tons of opinions!

Here's my take:  I use splenda regularly, but not heavily.  I pored over the research I could find and found I beleived the "It's Safe" research more, but I don't think that just because it is safe means it is *good* for you, so I do try to just cut the calories when I can and not use sweetener at all.  Splenda was introduced in Europe, I beleive, several years before it came out into the States, and there hasn't been a lot of evidence saying it will hurt you.  It does taste better than Aspartame, but I do notice that it seems to be "lighter" tasting than real sugar.  And it's expensive.

Oh, and you know youtube isn't a reliable source of information.  Try looking up some scientific journal articles and you'll do better.

low calorie? yes. healthy? by no means.

Agh, yeah, I have such a love/hate relationship with Splenda. I use it in my coffee and oatmeal every morning...I would love to give it up because something just tells me that I could really treat my body better without it. In fact, I think I'm going to try to cut it out of my diet starting tomorrow morning! How did that go for you, marjoriemae?

My toxicology professor says that Splenda is better than Aspartame, but it's best if you avoid them both. Aspartame should be avoided as much as possible, but it's everywhere, esp in diet sodas. Aspartame was approved using fishy methods and so it's not proven whether it's actually safe (in rodents, it leads to cancers). In humans, there's not much data. As for Splenda, it's better than Aspartame but if I were you, I would use the real stuff but slowly cut it down, and eventually, you will prefer the "less sweet" stuff.

Hope this helps!
