How many Splenda packets do you consume daily?

Quote  |  Reply

I use 10-15 packets per day and I do log calories for them [around 50 cals].

My number is high, and I'm curious about how many packets other people use.

Never use more than 3 per day.
Maximum 1. But I eat a lot of Foods which are sweetened with Splenda such as yogurts etc.

Maybe 6-7 packets a week in cups of hot tea or coffee. It's because I don't drink that much coffee, and though I drink a lot of tea the sweetener is just optional for me.

I'll have maybe 1 diet coke every 2 weeks.

I use honey a lot.

Don't worry, love_lipstick.  You're not alone.  I use tons of Splenda.  I'm too ashamed to even admit how many packets I use.  More than you.  I also drink diet coke and use sugar-free products sweetened with Splenda.  Ok, so I have a vice.  Big whoop.
Ugh I drink more diet soda than I should.. other than that, 4 packets a day? I use 2 on a whole grapefruit. Heh. Woops.
None, really.  Once every few weeks I'll find use for Splenda or other sugar substitutes but for the most part, I don't really like sweetened things.

I buy the granulated stuff that comes in the big bags.  I go through about 3/4th of a cup a day.  That's right, 3/4th of a cup.  I log it at about 100 calories.  I go through alot of sweetened iced tea.  And no, not going to unsweetened.  It's either Splenda or sugar, and the Splenda is much less calories.

Been doing this for a couple of years, and no health problems from it.  I feel fantastic!  *Drinks some more tea with splenda as I hit 'reply'."

None ... I actually try to avoid sucralose.

=^..^= MOLLY

never had one in my life.  and the last 5lb bag of sugar i bought lasted eight years (i'd still be working on it, except i had a roommate for a few weeks last summer who polished off the last cup).
I am so with tealeaf...I drink about 2 gallons of sweet tea (sweetened with splenda, but only abt. 1/2 c. per gallon) a week...and I'm certainly not cutting out my tea or going to unsweet.  Plus my daily dose of yogurt is sweetened with Splenda.
I try to never have splenda - but I used to (and still have 8 of them left - eek!) drink a non-calorie energy drink every morning (along with coffee -- now I just drink the coffee -- I am trying to wean myself off of the stuff & I am surviving!)... but along with this fake sugar from the energy drink, I also chew an enormous amount of sugar free gum (asparatame) So I figured: since I CANNOT give up the gum habit - I have to give up the splenda habit.... I do have another sweetener that I use for my coffee called Stevia which is actually pretty healthy! I wish all things were sweetened with it, that way I wouldn't feel so damn guilty with the fake stuff! ha ha!
None.  I gave up artificial sweeteners about a month ago and have never looked back.  Quit the diet soda, non-fat yogurt, everything.  I had to get used to the taste of real sugar again because artificial sugar is soooo much sweeter but I'm surprised how quickly I adapted back and now I can't stand the taste of artificial sugar anymore.  By accident I bought that yoplait yogurt with fiber and didn't notice it was non-fat and blech!  I could barely eat just one little cup of it.

I use very little sugar to sweeten anything now.  Only my coffee because I actually don't like the taste of coffee ;p

NONE.  That stuff can make you seriously ill.  It's a killer.  There are new studies out now regarding aspartame poisoning; scary stuff.  I'll go with natural sugar any day.

I cook and bake with Splenda exclusively, sometimes use the Splenda/Brown Sugar product as well. I drink only unsweetened coffee, tea, ice tea ; ) and 'foo-foo' (unsweetened, flavored sparkling) water (La Croix) so I never use it as a drink additive. I bake almost all "no sugar added" or if necessary, use splenda. I enjoy almost every type of dessert (and food) I want, I simply maintain keeping at my caloric budget.

I am now at my desired weight (today!) which is 195 (6'3"), workout about 1 to 11/2 hours (now to maintain and tone), I have lost a total of 35 pounds since Oct 4, 2007, started with a size 42 waist size pair slacks, now wearing 34....

And despite those who "warn" against using it (or other manufactured additives), my specific health needs make Splenda almost a necessity. With CHF, A-FIB (and every other thing that can go wrong with my heart at least once) and diabetes, I figure that since I am going to pass on anyway (as will everyone), and I don't think that by not using Splenda, Soy or any other additive I use,  am I going to live any longer than anyone else.  : )  (my personal soapbox - we ALL are going to go someday no matter how much less Splenda or Soy or whatever one uses...)

Congrats, TeaLeaf, on reaching your goal.  I use the granulated also and I'm curious as to why you log your 3/4 C as 100 calories?  I just went back and checked & my package does say 0 calories???

From 0 - 6 a day. I thought it was 0 cals.
There are 4 calories per packet of Splenda...  but even if you eat a lot of it, it's still nothing to worry about (calorie-wise). 4 calories is virtually nothing.

I'm a little bewildered.  I thought that Splenda had ZERO calories.  Granted I only use about 4 packets a day for coffee.  I thought that the chemical makeup of Splenda does not allow the body to process it as sugar.  Can someone clarify?  Thanks.

Splenda is sucralose, a half bread of glucose.  But you are right, the new research does show that even sucralose has potential health problems. If taken in large doses it can cause serious toxic effects on the body.
