Splenda sickness...anyone else?
bad thing is that i always end up getting sick from it.
does anyone else here?
i found some testimonials:
http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_t estimonials.htm
but i just wonder if anyone else has this issue.
i have given up the soda and i feel a lot better.
and then i start drinking it again...and ALWAYS the wierd sickness comes back.
for me is flushed feeling, sore throat, anxiety, g.i. disturbances, washed out.
its really terrible feeling.
I'm so glad diet pop is not my thing!
I've read articles too about people who have reactions to artificial sweetners. I imagine that just like any thing we eat there is always a possibility that we may be allergic to it and our body rejects it.
Take Care,
Sally xx
Congratulations on loosing 45 pounds!! It is really encouraging to hear that you have done that without any artificial sweetners. I have also read about the potential dangers of aspartame. Hearing your experience is so empowering!!
Thank you!
i have zero issues as far as "side effects" of sweetners....
use them sparingly like everything else..i don't like diet sodas...but i use two packets or so a day in a smoothie.....
of course there are gonna be something wrong with you (or a mouse or whatever they test on now) if you eat like 15 pounds of it a day....same as everything else....
try drinking 3 pots of coffee at all once..or through a couple of hours...watch how fun you have trying to digest it....doesn't mean its particularly unhealthy for you....just dont drink so darn much...moderation is the key...same with sweetners
same as if you are allergic to it...just don't use it..sugar isnt really all that bad in moderation......if your allergic to say..corn...when you eat an ear of it you don't come on a message board and try to warn people of the dangerous consequences of eating corn...
I think thats a pet peeve of mine :D whoo for me. (no offense meant to anybody of course...)
its the diet soda...if i drink it three days in a row. 2-3 sodas a day.
its not really that much..
chemicals sweetners and corn are two different things.
i know everyone doesnt get sick from it. i was asking if anyone on here DID.
should i go over my pet peeve now? ;)
your post is kinda rude and asumptive. as i already said. i dont have that much and this is how i react within days. and since you dont have this reaction you have no idea how crappy it feels.
it reminds me of a hangover and food poisoning or something.
googling sweet misery...
ugh...i hate this feeling.
i am just not having it anymore as of today. i have been eliminating things from what i eat to see what was making me sick like this. it has to be the fake sugar crap.
i think i am going to give up caffine too.....
my sugar is going to be honey or nothing starting today.
its didnt make me feel like this when i was heavier. it just started in the 145 range and gets worse as my wt gets lower.
now get your panties out of a twist :-P (seriouslly that was a joke...no hurt feelings)
I'm just blunt, cant help it...no sugar coating things from me...or splenda coated things for that matter :-P...
the corn thing was just an example...a poor one maybe, but just an example
I have some digestive problems and I know what feeling crappy is all about...don't assume I don't
basically my point boiled down to..if you have problems with it...don't use it...some things just don't agree with some people...but don't be all doom and gloom and rant and rave that its dangerous and blah blah blah....THAT is my pet peeve (doom and gloom over pretty much nothing)...I can feel that this thread is headed that way....thats all...
side note: my bf doom and glooms soy milk saying that it'll give me cancer :D I just tell him to STFU and let me have my damn smoothie :D
how much did he eat?
whooooo for allergies....
I have to take three different shots a week for all sorts of allergies..then have to sit there for half an hour to make sure I live after the shots....
coffee gives some people bad stomach issues...i mean digestive type stuff...just so you know before you completly give up on something :D
I started drinking coffee when I graduated college and started working..at first I had to make sure there was a bathroom near by...but my body is used to it now...
... nods
i also find artificial sugar very dehydrating. These days I opt for unweetened plain tea in fruit/spice flavors. Tastier than water but not going to make me feel icky. I also spring for water with a slice of lemon.
it may not be the sweetner..
My husband and a close friend of mine both have the same symptoms that you describe and they have narrowed it down to Phosphates.. no matter if it's diet regular they still get the same issues. Well they found that if they drink the organic sodas that are phosphate free no issues.
Although I recommend no soda diet, Whole Foods sell their brand of soda that is phosphate free. you might try it.
as the sweetener really bothers me when i am not doing everything perfectly healthy with food. i know that is also in a lot of junky food.
i felt so great doing the organic vegan thing. i should just go back to that. bus it to the health food store instead of being lazy and going to the close "normal" grocery store.
right now im thinking its the straw that broke the camels back type of deal.
i really shouldnt be eating crap anyway. it makes you look older and feel tired....being i heading towards maintain soon it probably best if i start the clean up diet phase along with the calorie counting.
american wines give me headaches from the sulfates the put in them. luckily i know a nice little italian man that gives out his homemade stuff for free.
:)
his stuff never makes me feel sick or hungover.
i actually wake up energized.
i must just be a sensitive body type.
my mothers make-up gave me hives when i played with it when i was little. lol
it nice though that i am able to chose to get that healthier stuff here in the city. in the small town where my parents are at its hard to find anything easy and healthy thats not way over priced.
i really should give up soda all together. its not good for the bones anyway. being that i have a small frame and both my gran and mother has osteo probs...i should address that before its my problem too.
onward to health blast hippie!
