I just did a split.

Quote  |  Reply

For the first time in my life! It took me about three months of inconsistent stretching, but today I finally stuck it.

Along with succeeding a wall-assisted handstand for the first time, beating a personal best in mountain running and seeing hints of an ab muscle, today has been a pretty good day.

What's next? Probably an unassisted handstand, one-armed push up or a chinup/ pullup - whichever I get to first. What are your small goals?

unassisted handstand, one arm pushup, pullup (or a one arm pullup!) are NOT small goals, they're huge!  let us know when you accomplish those!

i'm currently working on increasing my bench press to at least 125 and being able to do a real full pullup.

Oddly, I've always been able to do a split, even at my fattest (that's not a knock on your accomplishment - just saying that I'm a weird one!)

I want to hold the plank position for 90 seconds and not want to die afterward. Maybe a handstand (the last time I tried one I bumped my head...not fun.)

Wow, if I titled a post "I just did a split", it would be in the Health and Support forum.  Frown Congrats!

My vague goal is to be able to do real push ups one day.  I'm not working too hard on it but I am working on other upper body exercises.  I get so frustrated when I do push ups.  Yell

Do pushups from your knees, as many as you can, and keep trying to do even one regular pushup...you end up building the muscles up even with the bad attempts so that eventually everything just clicks.

Thanks, I tried for many years as a kid and recently do the knee pushups during my Bootcamp workout.  It never seems to get easier.  I'm still trying though.

My goal is to do a cartwheel again-used to do them all the time (when I was 16 or 17) so it's been 20 years...wish me luck!!! Laughing
