Everyone tells me you can't pick where you lose weight from, fine, but if that is true then what is this "tone-up" trash? If I want my belly and thighs to get smaller I have to lose weight, not tone up!!!!

Bump* I'm really curious!!

Toning up has everything to do with the muscle definition.

If my arms are sagging and I strength train them I am only working on the muslces.     If I want the weight loss, then it's only cardio activity that will do that part.

I hope this makes sense.

Thats a common misconception, weights lifting is actually a much more efficient exercise for burning fat.  This article explains is pretty well.

Yep, that's why doing 100 crunches is basically pointless. I mean core strength is important, and you definitly have to work it out, but the amount of calories you burn doing it is relatively small, it just builds muscle.

I joke a lot that I have an amazing six-pack, you just can't see it 'cause it's hiding ;)  And that's pretty much true

You kind of have to think of it like a pie chart....you need the strength training, the cardio, and the eating!

1 of them alone is just not as affective as all 3 put together!

****DISCLAIMER: this is just my opinion!******

O and Smartjock....its sooo funny you said that, cuz I just said that LAST night to a friend...great minds think alike!

You can build muscle (a.k.a. "tone") wherever you choose. You cannot select where you will lose fat, however.

For the muscle to be defined, you must lose the fat. Until then, it may actually add to one's body bulk because it is built beneath the fat.
