Spotting on the Pill.. Responses please.. I am freaking out. (girls only please!)

Quote  |  Reply
I have been on the pill for about 5 years now.. never any problems..

Last month, I was drinking a lot over break.. and not exercising this much.. so that could be a factor because the past 2 weeks I have been working out 5-6 days a week and am only drinking 1 day a week now..

Also, last tuesday I went to the gyno and spotted for like a day and a half-2 days after that.. then it stopped..

Last night around 6 pm I started spotting.. It's not a lot- but it's still something.. I don't start my period until next Wednesday or Thursday.

So what gives? Is this normal?

I do have sex.. But I take my pill at 2 p.m. exactly every single day.. Never missed a pill, don't take it late.. always the same time..

Spotting on the pill is normal.

But, like I always say, if you think it's an issue, see a doctor. Better safe than sorry!
Your cervix is probably still bleeding.  When the GYNO takes a sample tissue, it's normal to bleed after wards.  It CAN last up to 2 weeks off and on.

I doubt it's because of your pill, though spotting is a normal side effect, I've never spotted either.  You may want to consult the Nurse Line on your insurance.  They can provide you with advice.
I was on the same birth control for about two years when I started spotting in between periods. It may be because of the gyno trip or your body my be getting use to the type of birth control pills you are on. I'd give you Dr. a call and talk to their nurse if you are really worried.

I always had break through bleeding on the pill and ended up being on some freakishly strong dose and STILL had break through bleeding.

I'll echo other posters and say give your doctor a call--she can answer your questions better than we can, plus you can find out if anything is actually wrong.

If you were in the pill for 5 years with no problems and a regular cycle then I would suggest you contact your doctor. I doubt this was a result of partying. It could very well be something that is totally normal, but you want to be sure.

I never regulated while I was on the pill, and have always had "weird" stuff going on with my cycle, but my doctor says it is normal.

I had breakthrough bleeding with every pill I tried.  I'd be fine for a while with a new pill, then it'd start up again.  (I now use an IUD.)  Like others have said, check with your doctor or nurse if it keeps up :)

I did call my doctor and she said that unless it's enough bleeding to fill up a pad, then it's nothing.. but if it persists next month to call in and make an appointment..

I called them before posting this, however, it feels good to be reassured from other people who have experienced this instead of going straight to the doctor if you know what I mean..

I guess I am nervous about being pregnant for some odd reason and am just anxiously awaiting my period next week.

Thank you for all your responses.

Ok, so I am a 44 year old granny because my college son's girlfriend got pregnant while on the pill (at least that is what she says).  Interestingly, she broke up with him before she learned she was pregnant--though she suspected she might be--and then moved away and didn't tell him about it till she was almost ready to give birth.  So, it has been a bittersweet experience for us.

So, remember the pill is 97% effective--not 100%.  If you think you could be pregnant, then pick up a test at the drug store.  If it is negative, you will be able to sleep better till your period arrives and for the price it is cheap.  If not, well.....that is your decision to make.

Most gynecologists have staff that can answer your questions and concerns if they are unavailable when you call.  They are there for that reason, so take advantage of them.  They appreciate being able to help you.

I have always had trouble with the pill. I would get spotting all the time. You say you've been drinking more than normal...I wonder if that has an impact because while I was on the pill I drank quite a bit, or maybe that's just coincidence.

My advice is the same as a lot of womens', go see your doctor if you are worried, just for the reassurance it will give you.

Good luck!

Drinking alcohol would not effect your period. You may need to change the type of pill you are on. I had to do that once, and haven't had any spotting since then. Did your gyno take a sample of your cervix or anything?
Yeah actually, the reason I was spotting last week is because during my pap he cut my cervix. Yuck.

 Ouch! Surprised

Last week I started spotting about a week before my period too =I was freaking out I thought I was pregnant until I actually started my REAL period (which finally happened) but I've been all messed up since I had the LEEP procedure done (where they shave off the inner lining of your cervix with a laser) but normally you can tell by the color of the spotting whats going on! Just google it lol
Just remember that spotting means your B.C. isn't being as effective as it normally would be.  Don't forget to use a second for of B.C. if you choose to have sex.

Really?? I didn't know this!

Ughhhh..

Same stuff.. Little heavier.. I think I am starting my period a week early?

Weird.

Stupid va-jay jay's!

yeah, I didn't know it either till I complained to my Dr. about some a while back.  I don't spot often, but I have been recently due to increased exercise(methinks) and I just double checked that one out online.  If 2 Drs and the interweb agree I'd rather use a condom than risk a baby :P

I've been on the pill for 8 years. I almost never spot, but I just did this last month  - and started 4 days early! I started working out and eating better in Jan. I seem to remember that last time I started a diet and exercise program at the same time I was messed up too. So, while I am going to take a test in a few days just to be sure, I think my body was just annoyed at having so many changes at once.

Hi I have been on the same pill for about 8 years now and have never had a problem, but now I am in a VERY different enviroment where I work 12hours days 6 and a  half days a week and get maybe 6 hours sleep if I am lucky, can't really get any fresh fruit and vegie (completely different diet, but try and avoid the processed foods which is kinda hard to do). Try to exercise and still fit in time with my man, now on top of all that I am getting irregular periods and spotting and the pill doesn't seem to be controlling that, plus I am very emotional. i guess it is everything but I don't know what to do? there really isn't a doctor to talk to about that stuff. Any Ideas????
