How should I spread out my calories?
Asked by ctuuaga on May 01, 2009 in Weight Maintenance

So far, I've eaten breakfast and lunch and I’m already at about 1200 calories, my daily goal.  How do I manage m food so that I'm not starving at the end of the day?

Answer

There is not one best way to spread out your calories, but it’s good to have at least three meals a day.  Plan your daily menus in advance so as not to go over your calorie budget. One of the meals - breakfast, lunch (or brunch) and dinner - is usually larger than the other two.  Try dividing your 1200 calories into three, and allot 400 calories each for morning until noon, noon until 5-6 pm and evening until bedtime.  For instance, a person might eat a 300-calorie lunch and a 100-calorie snack at 4 pm.  Plan a simple diet distributing your food throughout the day.  Stretch your calories by choosing lower calorie foods that are filling.
