Spring Ahead Tune Up for 2010 Challenge
The next AIM Challenge: Rather than 3rd Annual April Fool's Day challenge, I thought we might tie this one to the start of Spring 2010. I combined that with a suggestion from Count Brian.
What amount of weight loss can you commit to between now and March 24th 2010 (the first Wed after the start of Spring 2010)? We have more than 12 weeks to burn the fat, increase strength, and prove the commitment to change started earlier in the year. How do you want to start 2010? Who is up for the challenge?
Consider your goal, commit to the process, be accoutable, and realize the goals you have for a healthy life.
Weigh ins begin Wednesday November 4th, 2009

Well wedding was awesome and we all had a great time, as the scale showed when I got home and weighed myself Monday morning. For this new challenge I am changing my goal to get back to the last low I had achieved. I hope everyone joings into this new challenge so we can continue to support each other. Weight control and exercise all benefits from traveling the same road as others and knowing that while we are all unique, we are not as unique as we think - especially when we get depressed! Has anyone seen this article: Why Doesn’t Exercise Lead to Weight Loss? (NY Times) http://tinyurl.com/ylqaher - it could help explain why we have the troubles we do.

Challenge Goals:
Weight Loss: I'd like to average a weight loss of 2 lbs a week. There are 20 weeks in this challenge, so I am going to set my weight loss goal for 35 pounds from my starting weight.
I continue to follow the principles of the Warrior Diet where only vegetables and some fruits are eaten during the morning and afternoon, and a larger meal consisting of a big salad, some protein and cooked vegetables, and either some carbs, fats, or sweets at the end of the meal. I monitor my calories and target approximately 1750 per day.
Exercise: Continue to exercise four times a week with Russian Kettlebells. This is a very good workout that continues to challenge me. With a calorie deficit its difficult to build muscle, but the calories it burns are very helpful and my overall fitness is improving.
I'd also like to start regular exercise in the afternoons such as walking, hiking, using my elliptical trainer, etc. This is mostly for endurance and to supplement the kettlebell workouts.
Holidays: Obviously stay away from heavy foods and large portions. I enjoy eating a lot of food, but I do not enjoy the food hangover and the mental let down after eating too much. If I can stay smart during the holidays it would be a great jumpstart to the new year.

I'm actually already down a few pounds from the start of the week when I got back in gear. I am going to try to be more strict going forward -- wayyy to many mental excuses on eating crappy food. It feels like either do it or don't.. stop doing it half way and not really going anywhere. I know if I follow the principles of my goals I'd lose two pounds a week without problem. No more excuses!
Keep up the good work guys! Even if its just a few of us reporting, its better than nothing. :)
Until Wed!

I seem to be doing a 2lb "dance" depending on how rigorous I am with the portion control. Hit 184 yesterday morning but bounced back up today. Oh well the trend is in the right direction.
Okay, here I go. The Ugly truth:
Current Weight: 172.4 (OUCH)
Challenge Goal: 160
Pounds from goal: 12.4
I feel like it's back to the drawing board for me. I haven't weighed myself on a regular basis in weeks, which made it easier for me to stray. And the taper-recovery (overindulgence)-taper pattern of the past 4-5 weeks didn't help either. I'm hoping that the extra weight that I'm carrying right now is something that I can shed fairly easily.
In other news, I did run the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon this past Saturday. I took about 4 1/2 minutes from the PR I set in Chicago on 10/11, running a 3:05:12. More importantly for me, I had an opportunity to enjoy the entire weekend experience!
Congratulations on your HM, bobev!!

Been a busy week. Was surprised to find I gained 3 lbs after the half. Can't figure out what the cause is but have to lose it. Ran with a head cold and achieved stretch goal so I am pleased. Now to see if I can achieve a pb on 2/27/10. The company team is almost to 35 versus last years 22! Gotta lose that weight... sigh.

I can assure you that the big loss this week is more the result of my body getting back to a normal state after the two marathons and less because of anything special w/r/t nutritional intake. Next week's weigh-in should be much more indicative of my current efforts.
Recovery post-Indianapolis has been going well, running just over 48 miles last week. Relying on the HR monitor has been key in making sure I don't overexert myself; it's a good thing as my legs have bounced back quicker than my cardiovascular system. And it's nice to be back to lifting twice a week!
Let's keep it going, guys!!
Great job WRM! I need to take lessons from you!

Tough week. To busy at work. Will not weight in next week - will be out of town w/o my scale. Will run Atlanta Half Marathon ThanksGiving morning with Son. Grandkids will run the 1k fun run. Will try to check in with race report. Have started using Maffeton, low heart rate training to increase continuous running time endurance. Most runs have been at hr=97, maf-10, and have been as long as 60min. Have started using 90 sec runs during long runs, with 1 min walks. Will walk run the ATL Half for sure. Goal is to finish. Have not extended continuous running long enough to tray even lhr for 3 hrs!

Another good week:
Last Week: 168.8
This Week: 166.2 (Down 2.6)
Challenge Goal: 160
Pounds from goal: 6.2
I'll take being 50% to goal (down 6.2 lbs since my first weigh-in two weeks ago). Of course, this is where the challenge truly starts for me. This weekend's social schedule is full, with Thanksgiving festivities tomorrow and a surprise birthday party for my dad (who turns 60 this year). And the feasting continues through December and well into January, so I need to find a way the maintain the right balance. It's all about choices and moderation.
After last week (just under 65 miles), I'm transitioning out of recovery mode and into base training for the next eight weeks. Looking at putting in about 70-75 miles this coming week, with most of it at an easy pace.
Have a great week!
no scale to weigh on this morning. Out of town.
Am running Atlanta Half tomorrow morning with my Son. After we finish the grandkids are running a 1k fun run at 1130. They are using a wave start with corrals. The first three corrals starting at 0700 and the next two at 0706. I'll be at the back of the 5th corral... My goal is to finish, stretch goal is 3:15:00 because of the 4mi hill from mi 8-12. I expect that will slow everyone down. It will be colder than the FW Half I ran which should help but I think the hill will keep me from finishing in less than 3hrs. I'll be training for a 2:45:00 goal for the Cowtown half the end of Feb 2010.
I hope all our US brethren have a happy Thanksgiving. Will weight in next week.
Hey guys! Where the heck did everyone go? Ashamed of how things went on Thanksgiving?

Tough week. Thanksgiving, fresh smoked brisket at a friends house, bday pty @work, baby shr(adopting chinese baby) @work, holiday luncheon at Texas de Brazil - protein pig out! Its a wonder I didn't "grow" to 180! Have to get back on eating track and get these xtra poounds off me.
Had a good run in Atlanta. It was cooler than the Fort Worth half and even with the hills I didn't get as tired as I did in FW. My son came back after making a pb (1:37) and met me between mi 11-12 and we ran in together. Felt great crossing the finish with him even if it was his second time!
Began low heart rate training in prep for 2/27/10 Cowtown Half Marathon. Will do very low hr 2x/wk by walking more than running, low hr 2x/wk with hr=97 (maf-10), and one long run building base back to 3hrs. Will use either Galloway run/walk - 2min run, 1 min walk with hr not to exceed maf=107, or continuous lhr running at hr=97. Would be interesting to teach the bod to continuous run for a couple of hrs. Not sure it can take it that long tho. Have been breaking in the labor day bargain Mizuno Alchemy's. Add Dr Scholls Trifit orthodic this morning and they worked like my old ones. 3.3mi with no foot pain or numbness.
